Other then Trumbull Mountain, where can I find these saddles? I sent tracings in to Trumbull almost 4 weeks ago and they still don't have a mw saddle for me.

But also consider trying a W in the model you're looking at from TM. The difference is not HUGE, and it may be a better fit, particularly if the horse has any muscling up to do.

Go the site for Bill Wood the saddle fitter. He has some demos for sale.

Don't forget too you can also deal directly with Black Country - things take longer, but they can be very useful.

I have a wide tree stabilizer that I ride in now, I also have a medium stabilizer. The wide is too wide and the medium is too narrow. I like the stabilizer but they are just too expensive. I took a look at the black country quantum and thought that sounded pretty good. The person at Trumball Mountain said he measured a perfect MW.

I looked at some of the sites that people were nice enough to post for me, but I didn't see any mw quantum's. One site didn't even ask for a size... maybe it would after you press the order key. I'll look more closely when I have more time.

I've heard such good things about TM, I thought it would be much easier to get a saddle from them.

No offense, but most good saddle fitters/tack stores don't have time to sit around updating their web pages with in-stock saddles. Their turnover is fast enough to make that impractical. Even Trumbull Mountain's web site doesn't necessarily reflect their current inventory 100%.

If you are serious about finding one, pick up the phone and start calling these places. Somebody will have what you need.

What padding have you used? If a W is too wide and M is too narrow, then because there is not a large difference between the W and the M, it's easy (as long as the shape is still right) to just add something like a half pad over the current pad, or a shim up front.

Really :)

Are you looking for a demo or to buy? I'm a bit confused from your post. If a demo, just take something in wide and pad to test. To buy, well it takes about a month after you order to get the saddle in . . . I had great luck with Trumbull Mountain doing a long-distance fitting.

IME, you don't order a saddle that isn't THE saddle, at least for the horse, that you demo. There are even certain things that you don't order for you that you don't demo. Just because it seems like the next tree width up or down would do the trick does not mean it will. Just because it seems a more forward flap will do the trick doesn't mean it will.

Sure, people have done it successfully. Many have been very frustrated and disappointed in doing it, myself included.

We have a used one in at a tack store here in Aiken. PM me if you want the detail and number to call the store.

I can't remember the details on the saddle as it's been a crappy week, sorry.

I am just so sick of dealing with this... My horse was very out of shape but now he is pretty fit. The county rep felt that the saddle wasn't wide enough, he wanted me to order an xw. Although when I put an xw on the horse, it went right down on his withers, so he added some shims and it fit better.

The problem with the wide tree stabilizer is that the tree points seemed to be too tight. Another saddle fitter didn't think he needed an xw, she put more padding in the saddle to try and lift it up a little. But the fit just does not seem right. The pommel comes down very low and it still seems tight at the tree points to me, and sometimes I think the back of the saddle is moving up and down a little but I'm not sure about that. I do not believe the saddle is sitting down on his withers, he is not sensitive in the wither area when I run my hand along his back.

I've been trying to ride in a thin pad so the tree points aren't tighter and the sweat from the horse is staining my saddle which I don't like. The thicker the pad the worse the fit seems to be, even with a mattes pad.

So I read all the stuff on Trumbull Mtn about the black country saddles. I sent everything in to them and I've been waiting almost a month for a mw. They had a wide but I didn't see the point in trying it when the lady said his tracing were a perfect mw. They also had a mw in a more expensive leather but I didn't want to try that either, I want to try what I can buy. I like their policies, I want to be able to actually ride in the saddle before I try it and like I said before, I've heard good things about them.

I'm just getting frustrated, I just want a saddle the fits my horse without spending a fortune.

harr, trust me, try the W that Trumbull has.

Your horse will thank you for having a little growing room ;)

If it makes you feel better, I tried a M Wexford from Trumbull and ended up ordering the M Ricochet. I felt ok ordering a saddle that I hadn't demo'ed simply because the tree on the Wexford and the tree on the Ricochet are the same thing, the cantle shape is just different. My saddle got here a month ago and my saddle fitter has been out twice just to keep an eye on it while it breaks in. She says it is a great fit and is very pleased with the way my guy is going in it now.

If you can try the MW in the more expensive leather (I assume you're talking about the Maelstrom, it's the EXACT same as the Quantum, just with nicer leather) and then just order the Quantum in the MW I would think you would be just fine. You can run it by the people at Trumbull Mtn just to make sure.

I have the Maelstrom from Trumbull. I love it. Just "demo" it as it's the Quantum, just with different leather. Be forewarned, though, you may fall in love with the calf and it'll cost you about $500 more!!

Do you need other customizations for you or your horse? My Maelstrom has a 1" more forward flap, the K panels and wither gussets. I'm very happy with these modifications. I took photos of my horse with the saddle and with me and the saddle and we were able to determine what modifications were needed . . .

good luck!

I ordered a BC saddle through them with some pretty specific alterations. Once it came in they waited for me to say that it was working for us before they charged me and I'm pretty sure that they would have taken it back and not charged me anything if I wasn't happy. I also know that they do not keep MW in stock. M and W, yes.

Not a chance ;) 20% restocking fee for a custom order.
