I've seen posts about this in the past, but really wasn't able to get any helpful info from them. Or if there was helpful stuff, I'd already tried it!
Occasionally, my mare's gut gets LOUD. Grumbly and gurgly sounds that you can hear if you're just standing next to her, not even ear to her belly. It usually coincides with her being stressed about something. ie, new buddy in the herd, change of environment, etc.
What are some good ways to help this? Some folks say any gurgling at all is good, but I can't imagine THAT loud of gut sounds is good. They might not specifically be BAD either, I'm not really sure. I get differing opinions on the subject. :)
FWIW, she's a happy healthy horse otherwise. Pudgy, shiny coat, plenty of attitude  , alert and all that good stuff. She's on grass 24/7, gets a handful of TC Senior a day to mix supplements in. She gets Tractgard (yeast, antacid, electrolytes), Raspberry Leaf, and Mega Cell.
Anybody got any ideas? Maybe I should give her some Beano or something!

No ideas, but I would rather hear loud gurgling then none at all.:D

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Consider this a "quality problem." Cuz no gut sound usually equals sick horse...

But sometimes really loud gut sounds also equal a sick horse, so it can go either way.

Maybe someone has giant Beano pills for animals or something. Hopefully not as a suppository.

What exactly do you want to "fix"?? I would much rather hear a loud gut, it's working!!

We have an OTTB who came to us with ulcers, pretty regular gas colics and very loud hind-end gut sounds. Vet said he had a hyper-active hind gut along with the ulcers and suggested Suceed.
He has been doing great since we started him on this stuff. No colics (hope I haven't just jixed myself), normal guts sounds and has filled out very nicely. I am afraid to stop giving it as he is doing so well on it but I am hoping all that was wrong is now healed and doing fine.
Our guy had other issues beside the very noisey gut sounds but I also don't think the rumbles you can here from outside the stall are exactly normal either.

Unfortunately Succeed is cost prohibitive for me, and I don't think there are any "knock off" brands of it yet. :(
There's shockingly few products on the market designed specifically for the hindgut. Succeed and Equishure are the only ones I know of.

If you can't spend the $$$ on Succeed, then you could try a probiotic. But really, if its not broke, I wouldn't fix it. I've known lots of horses with loud gutt sounds, and it's not a problem. Horses with precious few/quiet gutt sounds - now that's a problem.

I have one prone to occasional loud, gassy spells, and also mild gas colics. He recently finished a course of antibiotics (Doxy for a sinus infection). He had a mild colic on starting, and also when he finished the antibiotic; gut effect of some kind is common w/ antibiotics, of course. One thought I had, which my vet said had merit, is that perhaps he was getting too much probiotic, given that my TC feed (Lite) and my joint supp (SmartFlex Sr) both had probiotic packages in them. I've switched to a different joint supp, w/o probiotic; so far, so good, but it's only been a couple of weeks.
Anyhow, I'd be watchful of too much probiotic in a case like this, as well as too little. It seems to me that excess gas and activity says that perhaps the fermentation is going too well, or too rapidly.
BTW, I also wonder if my guy lying down on his right side has an effect, since that section of cecum is what gets distended and tight when he has a colicy episode.

My TB has very loud guy sounds as well. You could hear it from 2 or 3 stalls away. He was diagnosed with IBD, since treatment his guy had been fairly quiet.
