My horse is getting a hyaluronic acid injection on Thursday in his pasterns for arthritis.
As I've never had any of my horses injected before... Im not sure how long of a resting period he will need before Im able to work him again?
Im guessing maybe 2-3 days? What do you guys think?

I take it easy for four days afterwards with either handwalking or turnout if the horse is likely to remain quiet. After that start back slowly getting back to normal within 10-14 days.

Depends.

After any joint injection, my vet recommends 7 days of regular turnout, but no forced work. Then, start back lightly and take a week or so to ramp up to where you were before.

I've injected several. The protocol from my vet is usually 3 days of hand walking, 3 days of light hacking, then back to regular work.

Just do whatever your vet tells you to do and you should be fine.

Just remember that usually, once your to the point of *having* to do an injection, you're dealing with inflammation as a major source of the discomfort.

So, you want the drugs to have the longest time possible to do their job of reducing/eliminating that inflammation in order to get the most bang for your buck.

Usually suggest 2 days of stall rest with hand walking, 2 days of turnout or light work then can get back to normal. The drugs start working right away, however can take 7-10 days to reach the maximum effectiveness.

Our vet generally suggests 2 days stall rest, 2 days hand walking/turnout and back to work on day 5.
