So about a month ago I was trying to decide if I should put my pony back barefoot after two cycles of shoes (had them on because my arena wasn't finished and wanted to ride out). So, I bought a pair of Cavallo boots for her to have in case she needed them walking out to her pasture and back, and so on.
Well, we took the shoes off, left her with nothing for about 5 days, and then the farrier trimmed her normally and she is doing GREAT! We have lots of construction going on here, and she can walk without the boots up the gravel-mix road to her paddock, and even comfortably on PURE GRAVEL (there is a section of road to cross that you can go around, but she happened to go right through it one day). I'm really pysched. We put peastone in her run-in shed for her and she seems to like it.
Vet was out yesterday to do insurance exams, and she hoof tested her, etc. as part of her work up and said she isn't sore at all.
Here's my question. I also, after reading the thread on the importance of getting radiographs on barefoot horses as a help for trimming, etc. had the vet take xrays on her front feet, which she also thought was an excellent idea. My pony is not insulin resistant, she's been tested, but she has the look of a pony that needs a STRICT diet and to be watched for metabolic issues in the future. So although the vet thinks she has not had a problem or anything, she also agreed it would be great to have a baseline xray should something ever happen in the future (once again, I am SERIOUSLY) stringent on her diet and exercise, but I agree it is a good thing to have.
So, should I just post the link to the xrays on here when I get them for advice on trimming? Show them to my farrier? Both? I don't think I know enough to view them and get a lot of info - I looked at some from another post and was like :confused: The vet said she would email them to me with her comments as well.
Thanks in advance!
