What's the difference between Legend and Adequan? Or are they interchangeable?
Why would you choose one over the other?

Actually...they are different and do different things. Honestly...best to have the conversation with your vet to sort out what is best for your horse. Both are good products and often used together but serving different functions.

I'm sure I will get it wrong but if I'm remembering correctly, Adequan does more to help preserve cartilage and for joint health while Legend is basical HA (replenshing fluid around the joint).

Most of the time, I keep my horses on Adequan regardless of their work....and we add Legend to the mix as their competitions heat up to help them feel their best to peak at whatever that season's goal is. So for me, Adequan is more of the maintenance item year round while legend is more of a maintenance during competition times.....but that is just for my current horses. It may be different for another horse (or for my horses in the future).

There are also polyglycn injections which are supposed to have the benefits of both Adequan and Legend.

Again...talk to your vet...that's what we pay them for:)

they are different medications - legend is also faster acting from what I have been told - use it closer to competition - like one day out - while adequan is slower acting - use it as monthly maintenance or a couple days out from competition - but your vet should be able to explain how to use them best.

What bornfree said - while both are injectable joint help they have different actions. We mainatain on Adequan as a monthly treatment and use Legend prior to competitions. Talk with your vet.
