His name is Cavalier. He was an international show jumper (including puissance classes) under Franke Sloothaak and showed under the name of San Patrignano Mister. His sire Maykel (important KWPN sire) sired both dressage and show jumping horses. Cavalier actually has very little TB blood, which would make him a good cross on TB mares. BUT the TB blood that he does have is eventing magic. Maykel's sire was a son of Wild Risk named Exilio who was used quite a bit in KWPN breeding.

If anyone has TB mares with Wild Risk blood, the Dutch Cavalier would be a very promising choice for an all round foal with enough blood to do XC and dressage and show jumping ancestry as well.

He is available in the US by frozen; not cheap, but actually cheaper than some imported and domestic semen. This past year he was in the KWPN-NA semen auction. If he's in this year, there's a good chance I might bid.

Hey Viney -- what mare would you use him on? He looks a bit "old fashioned" in comparison to some of the younger stallions -- have you seen any of his foals? I just wonder what he seems to "click" with. Nice stallion and of course, the Wild Risk would be a motivating factor!

Wild Risk is by Rialto. So was Sif, the dam of Sicambre. My first thought would be mares with Wild Risk blood. My second would be mares with Sea Bird or other Sif lines. I think Cavalier looks a lot like Wild Risk in gray. If you look at the photo on Allbreed of Wild Risk, Cavalier looks like a slightly heavier version. I don't think it would take much to lighten him up. Wouldn't you want the same general type of mare but lighter?

What type mare would you choose?
