I had the best day on Friday and I wanted to share a nice story about one of the horses in our program.
Read about Rosey and her former life here- http://calabriarose.wordpress.com/about/

Rosey was on the way to New Holland before everyone got involved to help her out. A huge thanks to Friend of Twilight and Mid Atlantic Horse Rescue! She went into the retraining program where she went to some hunter shows, trail rode everywhere and did a hunter pace. We were sure she would sell but she still hadn't and winter came and there was no more daylight to keep her going so again she went back to the field.

A month ago she arrived at my farm looking more like a broodmare than anything else but I was excited to have her from reading her blog. From my first ride I knew this mare was something special. Quiet, brave and smart as can be. We all know smart can work against you but with Rosey it was just a matter of bringing her over to my way of thinking. Jumps were meant to jump over not go around:lol: It took some explaining but she was smart. She trail rode on the buckle and just loved to work. I started taking her on trips off the farm to see new jumps and she was jumping everything without hesitation. Go Rosey!

I had been leasing my event horse to a friend as he had been injured and is now just suitable for lower level eventing. My friend was a hunter rider who really wanted to learn more about eventing. I told her to enter Oldehope at elementary for her introduction to eventing. Poor girl is a nervous nelly and she could walk over them if everything went wrong. My horse got impaled by a stick in his coronary band right before the event and I didn't want her to miss out so Rosey to the rescue. Rosey had come along so quickly it was amazing. She was jumping 2'6" in the ring but had never seen x-c fences but heck it is elementary and she loves to trail ride and is comfortable in the open so lets wing it.

Result here- http://dixierumble.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/first-event-and-a-ribbon/

Nothing like throwing a green rider and green horse together but we describe Rosey as an old soul. She doesn't see the point in getting excited about anything so she managed to calm her nervous rider down and give her confidence. My friend is framing her first "eventing" ribbon. She had a blast and can't wait for her next event so mission accomplished on my part;) Rosey's next outing will be at BN. She is also enjoys the hunter ring and is quite good with her knees over the bigger fences so I will let the hunter rider handle that end of things:yes:
