Who will be attending? What horses are you bringing? This is a stallion approval site: anybody bringing a stallion for inspection? What mares and foals are you presenting? I will be presenting a Ster KWPN mare, hoping for her AHS approval, and her Bugatti filly. A friend is bringing her A Jungle Prince mare, SPS Amicella (who happens to be the dam of Florinero, the Silver Medalist at Verden this week!) and her Bergamon colt. Look for us there!

I'll be there to watch. Sadly not bringing anybody.

Wow, I'll look forward to seeing that A Jungle Prince mare! My friends used to have a super A Jungle Prince mare, who I simply loved :D

Good luck everyone!

I'll be there taking everyone's photos!

From the info I got from SVE, looks like mares & foals with the possibility of 1 stallion. They were still waiting for some late info - so I guess we'll see when the day arrives.

Very cool that so many from here will be there - come and say Hi, I'd love to meet everyone :)

Today was nice!!! Weather was not toooooooo hot and the horses were lovely. Our Fabuleux filly was second in the HANO class with a 7.33.

The highlight for us was our 17 year old HOL mare won Champion in the non-hanoverian mare class. The judges said they couldn't believe she was 17 years old. She scored 9 for her head, 8 for her forelegs and 8 for overall impression. I can't remember the rest of her scores but will try to pull up all the info. once we unpack.

There were some LOVELY horses presented. We didn't get to see much but looked like it was a nice group of horses!

Pics to come!

PS. Tamara it was nice to meet you today! I can't wait to see photos!!!

The stallion that was presented didn't pass, unfortunately. It was obvious to everyone, however, what an incredible temperament he had, and he seemed very rideable as well.

Dressage-Ryder, your mare was LOVELY! As soon as I saw her I thought, "Ooh, she looks Holsteiner!" so I figured out who she was, lol. A Capitol I granddaughter, you lucky girl you!

I show her scores as:

Head 9, Neck 7, Saddle Position 7 (with comment that it would have better when she was younger), Frame 7, Forelegs 8, (I missed her hindlegs score), Overall Conformation 7, Type and Femininity 8, Correctness of gaits 7, Trot 6, Walk 7, (I missed Impulsion and Elasticity), Overall Impression 8, total score 7.16.

Ok , some pics!! Thank you everyone for the wonderful words about Greta. She is truly a grand mare and a pleasure to own ... Her personality is unbeatable. I love when the old girls try their heart out.
Flashykatt- I am lucky and thank my stars that we got her- you are right she is a VERY Holsteiner looking mare. I see a lot of Capitol in her.. She also got infoal on the first try as a 17 year old maiden... Can't say there is one thing about her I don't love.

Grayfox-Thanks!!! I am so excited for her Romantic Star baby in April :) :)

Dressage-Ryder, your mare is lovely. I saw her Thursday PM before the inspection and knew right away she was a winner. Classy, Classy, Classy. Congratulations. I had no idea she 17 years of age. What a mare. The kind of mare every breeder seeks, and is lucky to have.
It was my first AHS inspection, having KWPN mares, and I was a nervous wreck after a 6 hour haul. The Starr Vaughn facility is top notch, and a great inspection venue, as well as a very nice, and accomodating stabling facility. Michele Vaughn obviously puts her heart and great effort into making the event a successful one. Thank you Michele.
I really appreciated the AHS judges detailed commentary on all of the horses judged. This kind of feedback is really valuable. One of the differences I noted for this inspection from the KWPN one's I have attended, is that the mares are not independenty viewed walked and trotted on a hard surface away and towards the judges, rather than on the triangle entirely. Other than that, the assessment process is similar.
I know the AHS does not officially judge the foals with individual scores, and for good reasons, but I sure wish they gave a little ribbon sash for the "Champion" foals they do name, so as to sport for photographic purposes since my Bugatti/Ulft filly was named Champion filly! A nice bonus for my introduction to AHS and my KWPN mare being approved AHS also.
Tamara-with-the -camera: Thanks for your willingness to get those extra shots. How long before we get to see the proofs on your site? I cannot wait to see the photos.

Among the other horses that I saw and appreciated:
The Brentano II colt was really nice and well-developed. And I really liked the Fabuleux mare as well. Of course, I was partial to the Bergamon colt, who is owned by a friend of mine and out of the mare Amicella. Until this day, I had only seen them in pasture, but the little Bergamon colt really showed what a supple trot movement machine he is, though much younger than the other colts.
All in all, a very pleasant experience.

I was there for a short time and was able to see the GORGEOUS Bugatti filly - all I can say is WOW (her dam is nice too)! I only got to see the first two colts - missed the Brentano II colt :(

Was very impressed with Greta, Fabulux and Ulft mare. That was about all I actually saw.

It was nicely run and nice venue as well.

Congrats to all!

What a great inspection! All of the horses were really turned out well and it ran so smoothly. Michele and her crew do an excellent job keeping things going and everyone happy. Good times!

Dressage-ryder - great to meet you and your wonderful mare :) She really is a treasure, Congrats!
Indy-Lou - also great to meet you. What a spectacular & very photogenic filly! Those extra shots are what its all about! Top Filly's deserve a little something special ;).

I'll start working on them tomorrow - I'm finishing up the Summer Celebration H/J show from last weekend and I have a shoot today - busy time of year. I'll start posting them later in the day on Monday.

Thank you to everyone who made my day so enjoyable!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments on our Brentano II colt.

Our breeding program is small (only 1 mare), but we are serious breeders and work hard trying to produce the best offspring out of this mare that we possibly can. This is her 5th foal for us, and while some of the others have come close, this was the first time we received the top foal award at an inspection. It was very rewarding to hear such positive comments by these judges and to have confirmation that our breeding program is on the right track.

Like Indy-Lou, our only (minor) disappointment was that they did not have a little ribbon sash for the "Champion" foals, so that he could have worn it for his "after" photos. Nonetheless, we will always remember our first top foal experience with giant :) :) :) s.

For those of you who indicated you would have liked to have seen him but didn't get a chance to, I have posted the videos taken at the inspection. Here are the links: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIAnXstSpUQ and www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFawqBqe-es.

Again, thanks for the nice comments. They are much appreciated.

Lovely colt.

Who was the judge reading the evaluation?

Oakstable - Thank you, and yes he is long legged.

How far back do you want to know on the mare? DJanna is Derwisch/Gutenberg/Novize.

Derwisch goes back to Duellant through Dirk/Duft II. Derwisch's mother was Edle by Egoist (Ernoe x Die Dame) out of Garbe (Grande x Auergilde)

Gutenberg is by Good Match xx (Match III xx x Dolphinet xx) out of Silla (Sender x Wotanskind)

DJanna's dam is SPS Goldika out of Noblesse who is by Novize (Novum xx x Duenenspiel) out of Arnika (Argentan x Dohlenfee). You get a gold star if you followed all that!!!

The judge reading the comments was Uli Hahne who is Deputy Breeding Director and Studbook Manager for the German Verband. I believe he is responsible for all things related to the German Hanoverian Stallion Licensings, approvals, inseminations, etc. and registration of qualified mares. We were very pleased to see that he was part of the team at this inspection.

Does your mare usually throw longer legs?

What vintage is she?

The pedigree looks to be solid in older lines.

I heard the German judge say they expected your colt to have an older look.

Did he elaborate at all on the pedigree?

Congratulations Sherry and all who did well. I am sorry but did not stay long enough to see the foals. I was very disappointed to see how few breeders used this inspection at this incredible facility where management does a great job and even the temperature was great! Now I worry we will be inundated for our October inspection and end up turning people away :(

Indy-lou
Aug. 17, 2009, 03:07 PM
Hi Edgar: I know I was certainly concerned that it would be HOT for the SVE dates, and seriously considered the October dates, before deciding to go for it this month at SVE. I'll bet a lot of people were concerned about weather when they opted for Oct vs Aug. Hope you don't have to turn anybody away.

Does your mare usually throw longer legs? Djanna has had 5 foals for us, Bernd being the 5th.

The 1st was by Freestyle (Frappant/Bolero) and was very similar to Bernd in type, movement and length of leg as a colt but he had to be euthanized at 4 months due to an injury so we never saw him full grown.

The 2nd was also by Freestyle but very different in type. She did not have long legs and was more old fashioned than any of the others.

The 3rd (Grassiano) was by Grand Cru and he is now 7 and 17.3+h, but I would not say he has long legs for his size. You can judge for yourself if you go to YouTube and search on Grassiano. There are several videos of him there.

The 4th was our 2008 filly by Werther, and she again is more modern type and does have long legs.

What vintage is she? Born in 1992, she is now 17.

The pedigree looks to be solid in older lines. I prefer the old style mare with lots of substance. I think some of the old lines are in danger of being lost, so I was looking for a foundation mare whose pedigree included some of these lines. I especially wanted either Grande or Duellant in the pedigree, so when we found DJanna, she fit the bill perfectly.

I heard the German judge say they expected your colt to have an older look.

Did he elaborate at all on the pedigree? Unfortunately no. I wish he had since I have been searching for information on her motherline ever since we got her and still haven't found anything. I did see both Derwisch and Gutenberg at Celle before they died, so I at least know the phenotype on them.

I paged through a lot of Tamara's photos looking at bridles and browbands.

I recently did a search for a brow band and had one custom made.

I think that V shape band looks really nice on that mare. A good choice for her.

I would have guessed her sire, Gaspari, would be Swedish.

Her sire is the Holsteiner Gaspari I. Gaspari I is a son of Grundyman xx and his dam Texas is the same dam as Flemmingh.

Yankee Lawyer, I know what you mean! I am so pathetically logging on to the site every 15 minutes to see when my filly's pix come up. I wasn't this excited to see my wedding photos! You ladies are making my day :) I love shooting inspections because I get some alone time with each horse. Just wish I could get the judges to let everyone go at least 2x's around the triangle ;). Or better yet, get the hosts to use the outdoor arenas!

As for shooting in the indoor arenas without using a flash - at SVE I meter for the wall and then shoot a stop up or down depending on the color of the horse. For action shots I try not to go any slower than 1/500 sec. ;)

Happy to read that everyone is liking the pics! Hope to see some of you at SVE on Sat. for the Old NA Inspection.

Thank you for the compliments. This cross exceeded my expectations, so I just may have to repeat it in the future. In the meanwhile, Tenacity is in foal to the KWPN stallion OOseven (007) (Rubinstein x Doruto x Amor), a cross I have long wanted to try with her. So far, she has really been a great producer. I think a good Ulft mare is special mare to have too! I wish I had another one or two. Tenny's pedigree is unique for a Dutch, now Hano approved mare. Her dam came from the jumping program of Hidden Creek Farms, her sire the Holsteiner stallion Coriolan (Calypso I). Further down the mare line is Marlo by Marlon and on the very bottom, Furioso. Through Ulft, she has two crosses to Furioso. The judges said both she and her filly have a lot of power from behind, as well as elasticity, and so far, she has reproduced this. Her jumper pedigree may account for her lowest score, which was the walk.On the other hand, she got 8 for correctness of gaits and her trot, also the canter I think. I was perplexed by the score she got for her head though, a 6. I always think she has a very attractive and pretty head. Not complaining though.
