A cute emaciated little hound dog. Picture on my facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?
He has already been to the vet. He is 3 - 5 years old. Shy and adorable. Smart as a whip. A former kennel dog, but thrilled to be in the house. Oh yes, while I was away this weekend he migrated from outside dog to house dog. I have 3 other dogs and need to find him a good home. WIll post on the giveaways, but really.... how could anyone loose this cutie. He is precious.... and when you call to him he gets down on the ground and wags his tail. Poor thing. He goes out with me to the barn and watches me feed. He willplay with me, but not my husband. He likes him just fine, but I think he is more comfortable with me. SO wants to keep him, but I think it's just not fair...he needs his own home.
Anyone else have pets that bring home strays?

I can't see the photo.
You aren't able to find the owner? If a hound gets out they'll follow their nose for many many miles until they are completely lost and exhausted.
My old bassets snuck out of fence here and they were found miles away and they'd only been gone a couple of hours. I don't even know how they made it across the creek - they didn't like to swim and that creek was high.
Miles - can you believe that? Fat old house bassets? Mama's boys?

I am the only one that brings home strays at my house. So far I have found homes for 3. The last one I found is a keeper, so no more strays for me.;)

covered with seed ticks and has weepy eyes. Seriously, you can see the indentations of the bones in his back. We are slowly feeding back to weight. He's had tick meds and wormer and has already gained some weight. But still looks awful. I had animal control out to look at him. They put a notice up on the board at the shelter that I found him. He's been out quite a while. He has rubs from once having had on a collar. He has obviously never been in a house before because the poor thing keeps wiping out on the wood floors and lenoleum. He also loves to climb... like on the coffee table. Right now we are working on "no" and "get down". He does not strike me as the hunting dog type, more like a caged or chained dog who's gotten away from home.

Awww... c'mon, you KNOW you want to keep him. Then y'all can have FOUR dogs in your house like us.
If you call Goochland AC, talk to Corky-- he's a really nice guy, we found an emaciated hound last year that had a collar on but the owner's phone number was disconnected. Corky remembered the guy's name from when he called AC looking for the dog. It turned out the dog had been missing for three or four MONTHS, and he tracked the owner down for us... the owner was ecstatic. Poor old hound was skin and bones, luckily he wandered to our farm and we spent about two hours trying to get close enough to him to catch him and read the collar. Anyway, worth a shot calling AC. (Sorry, you posted at the same time as me, I see you already contacted AC.)
If you want to try and find him a hunting home (I know, not ideal but if you really can't keep him), call us... Mr. KPF almost always knows responsible hunters that'll take an extra dog. We get a lot of crap for having hunting dogs but they're very well kept and the guys he hunts with all treat their dogs well.

Awww poor thing.
Seed ticks have been bad this year.
Good luck with him - send me a pm if you have trouble finding a home for him.
Oops - see you already have an offer.

I am going to try to place him into a house home if I can. He's sooooo precious. I just don't see him hunting. Very shy. I dropped a shoe this am and he jumped about 2 feet off the couch. (you see where this is going, yes?) I will let you know if we can't find him some new people. Brent wants to keep him. Sigh. But does not understand the whole re-training, treat him like a puppy phase. He did get out the big dog crate for him to sleep in last night and he was very happy in it.

Big Sigh. . . I can't see the photo either. However, to answer your question, no, my dogs don't bring friends home, yet somehow the strays tend to gravitate to my property anyway. In the past 5 years, we have had to call animal control to come and get at least 10 stray dogs. As far as I know, from speaking to the officer that comes, most of them were adopted out.
But. . . we did keep one, that it took us 14 months to capture, and she is making the transition to house dog at light speeds. (and many thanks to all the folks here on COTH who gave me moral support and advice throughout the "taming" of Angel. So now we have 5 dogs in the house!

mm-- I totally understand wanting to find him a "house" home. That's why the adorable beagle pup joined the ranks of the other 3 in our house-- she was way too cute and sweet to become a hunting dog. However, she has the best of both worlds-- she goes out on invisible fence and hunts anything she can find... frogs, butterflies, mice, horseflies... I love me some hound dogs. :D

My beagle was an awesome hunting dog (rabbit) and is very shy. Some are just like that. She's ok with loud noises like firearms but only in context. If there is a loud noise in the house she freaks. Outside or when she's on a line... you could set off a bomb and she wouldn't flinch. Or shut up. She does have a mouth on her.
She's asleep at my feet now. These dogs are always asleep at my feet. No wonder I trip so much. Lazy hounds everywhere!!
I'd really love to see a photo - what kind of hound is he?

He sounds like my Minnie, a hunting hound who was dumped by an irresponsible hunter. She's now a happy house dog, content to lounge on the couch and sneak into bed with me when my husband is out of town. :)
It's very likely that he had little or no preventative care before you got him. Here in SE VA, the shelters are full of hounds that never get claimed. :(

We have a rescue Beagle. The thing I've learned about hounds is that their noses control them. Ours will follow her nose ANYwhere. You may remember last January she was gone for 3 days in a blinding snow storm. She had no worries and bombed around sniffing all that time. I called every office of authority within 25 miles, put posters in all the mailboxes within 5 miles. called all the neighbors, sent photos out over the internet. When that wretched dog was ready, she pulled up in the driveway of a farm about 3 miles from here and begged to end her journey. She had been spotted 10 miles out, happy as a lark. I bet that little dog of yours has someone searching for him. Or maybe they've given up by now. Please make a bigger effort to find HIS people before you give him up to just anyone.

Yep, hounds wander. We once rescued a beagle who had pulled up his chain in the yard and gone traipsing five miles across country until he got snagged on a log in our woods--fortunately for him he howled all night and since we could still hear him the next day, I went looking for him. His owner actually drove by the house as we were debating what to do with him--he'd been driving all over the township searching for his dog. (The begale was VERY happy to see him--there are few things wigglier than a happy beagle.) They can go a long way following their nose.
