View Full Version : Let's see those green horses
Hunter-Eq rider
Aug. 10, 2009, 11:10 PM
I want to see everyone's young green horses.
Here is mine! :)
Show name: Diamonds Are Forever
Barn name: Tiffany
Age: 3 (though she acts like a made 13 year old)
Breed: Canadian Warmblood
Other: She does not act 3 years old, she is smart, and very willing to learn. We take it slow with her, she has been to two small shows. Though I don't agree with pushing young horses to show at an early age, she is a totally different case. She is a gorgeous hunter, and is a wonderful Eq horse because she is so smooth. She has so far been doing amazing in the hunters for her age. She has the biggest stride in the world!

I'm only 13, so it can be a little difficult with a young horse, but it is so rewarding, and I definitely wouldn't be able to do it without my trainer and the other riders at my barn. :)

Here's mine, age 5. She's never been to a trainer, although we do have an instructor work with us. I just started her over fences this summer, she's easily doing 3' at the moment. Shown 3 times in cross rails, going to be doing a cross country event this fall.
Next season we'll be attending APHA shows and LMHJA and MHJA shows to do hunters and jumpers.

Show/Barn Name: Gatsby
Age: 6
Breed: Dutch Bred Canadian Warmblood
Gatsby just turned six this spring and he is my little boy. :) I bought him when he had just turned four and had been undersaddle for about nearly a year. We have had many firsts together! My first 3'3" jumper class was his first too, same with 3'6", medal classes, indoor shows, liverpools, triple bars, hack classes etc. We spent our first show season together doing the baby green hunters (to get a feel for each other) and after getting to know each other, have now progressed all the way to 3'6" jumpers. It's hard sometimes because we sometimes end up with the blind leading the blind but with a lot of help from my ever so experienced coach we're both coming along quite nicely :). The thing I appreciate most about him is his fantastic attitude and his brain. He's a quick thinker and smart but also very easy going and forgiving.

Ok, I'll play :)
I love seeing everyone elses babies...it's such a long, rewarding road to bring them along
Name: Amazing
Breed: DWB
Age: 4
He is a stallion by Balou du Rouet that I bought as a 2 year old. So far I have done everything with him and he lives at home with me. He's getting ridden 4-5 times a week with a lot of variety in the work, and just starting to trot small jumps. Well, the jumps are small, but he usually overjumps them up to the top of the standards! I just love this horse...

This one isn't very young she is 13 but very green
Show name: Her registered name is Monkey Wench  so we need to get a new name for her!
Barn name: Cheyanne
Age: 13
Breed: Thoroughbred x Paint
Other: She is a very cute horse who is too pretty to just be a trail horse like the BO wants her to be so I am trying to turn her into a schooling/B level hunter, she did used to show but was ignored for a few years by a prior owner so she forgets it all.

I do not have any recent pictures or videos but here is my now 4yo Oldenburg, who was started in Nov '08.
Mid December:
Very early ride, fourth canter u/s (Also his youtube debut) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NoUJIpB0LE)
Mid February:
After about 6 jump schools (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5cWzgef8l8)
Later in Feb:
First little show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbwb_aGNWIA)
April
He lives at a dressage barn now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49Muo_l13KA) and we have been focusing on his flatwork there since April.
Plans are to return to a hunter barn over the winter to install show-ready courses at 2'6" with a lead change, and then hit the rated shows over the summer
Sadly I have nothing more up to date than that, but it is basically the same flat work but more organized. :D

I took him to his first show Sunday to just look around and he was being SO good, I got on and walked him around a little.

My greenie is actually 9, but is an OTTB who has spent most of her life in a field. She loves her new job and is trying very hard to be a hunter :)
She's so goofy, if the fences are too small, she decides she wants to jump them about a foot more than is necessary

Show name: Cantare
Barn name: Carson
Specs: 17+hh 8 y.o TB, under saddle consistently for less than a year
I just got back from VT with him on Sunday and for a horse that has actually shown at a grand total of 3 horse shows in his life (he's "been to" 5), I'd say he's one cool customer...and one cool customer who jumps everything like this: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31586405&l=168d11bf1a&id=8002195 (in the schooling's with my trainer on board...he's still figuring out that his hind end has to ALSO do something when he's doing his changes, so we're waiting to permanently move him up to the pre-greens until his body is in the same zip code, lol!!)

Here's Mine! We backed her in November and really started riding her in December but never jumped her till the day we shot this video. Yes, she got a little silly at the end - but nothing major! She's young and green but so smart and is going to be very ammy friendly!
Show/Reg Name: Galiba
Barn Name: Libby
DOB: May 23, 2006
Breed: Belgian Warmblood (BWP)
She hasn't been to a show under saddle yet but we're taking our time with her. She's done quite well in hand and has been through her AHHA and BWP mare inspections.

I bred him and I expect he will be with me forever, regardless of whether or not he turns out to be my next super-duper hunter.

Izzy was an unstarted (and badly spoiled) five year old when I got her this February. We finally started riding this summer after several months of mostly ground work. Here's my baby:
Show name: High Tide (this was long debate among friends and family)
Barn name:Ty
Age: 4
Breed: TB
Height: 16.1 1/2" and growing =)
I bought him in Feb with 60 days on him (he's unraced) and he had never been anywhere/done anything. So its been a learning experience =) He's freaking awesome and aside from the occational spook at strange things he's super quiet. He's got the best personality and so forgiving when I make my petrified ammie mistakes. He's gone to one show to hang out and we are taking him to weekend show in a few weeks and my trainer will show him in a flat class or two.
We are taking it super slow and he's coming along nicely. Going FORWARD is our biggest issue! He's starting to learn to bend and we've been jumping xrails and tiny verticals. He seems to enjoy his job and I have my fingers crossed that he wants to be my hunter =)
He doesn't look quite like a baby so much any more:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/KMBUMASS/Ty108.jpg
Here's his canter. I'm having a hard time learning to sit it but its so comfy!
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v474/KMBUMASS/?action=view¤t=Ty043-1.flv
And "jumping" a cross rail. Minium effort possible.
