gumshoe

I'm looking for a saddle for a very difficult horse to fit. :( He has a very flat back but a decent wither.
I recently bought a second hand Bates and I find there is too much curve to the panels. It's an older Bates and a saddle fitter told me that they were made with more curve when mine was made. It does not have the 'lacing system' to make it easier to take it apart and add 'shims'.
I'm not in love with this saddle anyway so I'm looking for another.
I'm looking at a Barnsby Esprit, used, online. Can anyone tell me if the panels are fairly flat on this saddle?
Also, Barnsby's website describes the #3 tree both as being "medium" and "medium/wide" so I'm not sure if I should be looking for a #3 or #4 tree! The Bates medium/wide (blue) gullet fits like a glove.
