I have been out of the equine loop for a whilenow--having children, working and now a divorce. The last is potentially forcing the sale of my horse. Here lies my problem--I have not a clue how to price him so I was hoping for a bit of help. I am not sure he will have to be sold but I would like to be prepared if I do.

he is a 12 yr old 17 hand Qh. Has shown hunters from long stirrup to adult ammy. Always in ribbons and top 3 inthe hack. Realistically he would be happiest as a pre child/pre adult horse. Easy down the lines, auto changes.

I have tried to keep this vague just to get some ballpark figures. As I said he is NOT for sale at this time so I am hoping this thread will not get deleted as I really need to input!!

Depending on how fancy he is, what he's been shown in (are they local? Or AA?), and what area you're in, it'll vary a lot. I would say that he could go for between 5K (local stuff) and 20K (bigger shows) if he's just kind of average and will place on a good day, but not if there's some really fancy horses.

I'd also say $5k to $20k. I'm in a similar situation! What will help is if he is easy for a timid kid to ride. I've had some kids come out to see my horse who just don't know how to use a brake pedal. It's puzzling to me since I ride in a big fat eggbutt snaffle, but it's like they get on my horse, and she speeds up, and there is absolutely no effort to slow her down. So if you have a horse that will jump around and never go faster than a medium trot or medium canter, I'll send you some kids!!

Thanks

I was thinkig in the 10k range because he will not pack a timid rider around. He prefers somone that knows a little bit about what they are doing.

As for show experience--places and is competetive at "A" shows and can not be beat at local shows.
