We are trying to help a friend find a ride for a dog rescue that now has a home in Wisonsin, but is in NC now. The individual adopting the dog will meet someone or we have been trying to work out a "transfer train." Supposedly, Lousville, Ky or Lexington, Ky are halfway and the lady can meet him there. He is a 35 pound part lab dog that rides well in the car. He is up to date on all vaccines, heartworm, etc. Any ideas? Thank you so much! :)

does a lot of traveling. maybe you should contact some breed specific rescues and see if they have any transport trains lined up in the direction this dog needs to go?

Try talking a look at this website. It is a group of private pilots that will take rescue dogs from location to location. You could see if any have flights going to your area or post a request for a specific location.

Thank you for that idea..........:) The new pet airways is good too, and we were going to take up a collection, but isn't going where we need it.

Someone else just posted www.operationroger.rescuegroups.org (http://www.operationroger.rescuegroups.org) that are supposedly truckers doing the same thing. Thank you!

I just have to say how awesome it is that enough pilots and truckers are willing to ferry dogs around so that they can find decent homes.

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions. We are still working on it and just found out that this dog's final destination is Pardeeville, Wisconsin, which is close to Madison. The new owners are happy to pick him up almost anywhere. We have been talking with some people, but it is too hot to put him in a trailer in the back in a crate at the moment. He rides well in a car and will sit on a backseat. Keep the ideas coming, as it's great to know about all of these things anyway! I am amazed at how many people are willing to help too! :)

Is it that expensive to just put him on a plane? Not being catty - just wondering.

I am heading to Tryon tomorrow, and heading back to Ann Arbor (thru KY) the following Monday. If we can make it work I can do it....

Great for this dog, but there was just recently an article in the paper here in hte Minneapolis/St.Paul area about the number of rescue dogs being brought to the upper midwest from southern states while local shelters are overcrowded and local dogs are having to be euthanized. Using fuel to transport a dog to a place where there are many other dogs also in need, hmmmm...
Just food for thought.

This was a case of someone who knew someone that would take the dog. I don't think the people would have gone looking for a dog. I am glad when any of them find a home. :) Plus, we are looking for people already going in that direction........Thank all of you so much for your help!

They have to travel in the cargo area of a plane, unless you use Pet Airways and they don't fly into any airports close to the departure or arrivals areas yet. It is too hot for him to be in the cargo part now.........90's + around here. Otherwise, they had considered that. Just bumping this up to see if anyone else is going that direction.........thank you.
