hello,

I live in France and I used to have 2 horses... but recently, my female died from anthrax... It was very difficult for me to loose her... 4 days after my second horse begins to show signs of this desease... He had penicilline treatment for the moment and seems to go better now...

In France there is a vaccine only for cows.. and we don't know if it could be used on horses...

Do you konow this desease? Have you ever heard about a vaccine for horses?

(sorry for my English....)

Ask your vet?

my vet can do a vaccine but it's the cows' one.. :-( and in France we don't know if horses has been tested with this one... it may be dangerous... and my vet asked me to find a vaccine made for horses only.. tested and approuved on...

I'd think that your vet would be far more able to find out information like this--I don't mind doing some homework, but it's sort of his/her job, isn't it?

http://www.aaep.org/anthrax.htm

There appears to be a horse vaccine, but this doesn't indicate if it's available where you are. Perhaps your vet could contact the AAEP?

thanks! it's very interesting! what means aaep? in France we talk about athorization to commercialize the vaccine? is it the same than aaep? if it is, my vet accepts to vaccine my horse with a vaccine which is not commercialize in France but he doesn't want to have te responsability of this act in case of death by the vaccine...

American Association of Equine Practitioners. It's a professional organization of equine veterinarians. There are probably laws governing whether or not a vaccine approved in one country can even be used in another country, so it may not be as simple as wanting to use it and placing an order. This is where I think your vet would have to be making some phone calls.

ok I understand. I'm going to tell my vet to call aaep... I don't know if he speaks english... I hope it will be good because I don't want to put again my horse in my area... it will be too dangerous... thanks a lot for this information!

we try to build an association to be more powerfull to be heard by the french administration... Maybe like this we will have the right to import this vaccine or to make it here...

You might see if one of our Canadian participants can suggest a
veterinarian or association there for your vet to call. Many of
the Canadian professionals can speak at least some French and
they are just as knoledgeable as the people in the USA.
