I'm an older adult rider with problems with thinning bones who is considering using body protectors for my riding ( trail riding.) In researching body protectors I came across the Charles Owen shoulder and collarbone protector. Their literature says that a European survey concluded that the upper arm shoulder area was the most likely to be injured. I was surprised at this because I had always assumed that falls flat onto the back were most common. Does anyone know if this information is accurate? I also wonder how many of you use body protectors whenever you ride. I understand in England and Europe it is far commoner to use vests all the time than it is in the US. While in the warm weather I cannot imagine wearing body protectors I am thinking I may try to wear an Outlyne vest and Charles Owen collarbone protection system whenever it is cooler along with my helmet.

Any thoughts from others?

According to the orthopedic surgeon that just looked to my torn rotator cuff, shoulder joints are very complicated and easy to injure for anyone, young or old, doing most anything in our lives and not necessarily riding or falling off our horses.

Any protection you choose to use will be always to your advantage, if it is a helmet or body protector or simple good strong boots.
That also includes protecting your rather complicated and easily injured shoulders.

Go for it.:)
