I have a TB/Shire Cross who happens to be VERY wide! I am having a hard time trying to find a saddle that fits him (he needs a 38cm tree). And I am in need of a 19" seat (we are both chunky...hehe) I have been looking into Duett and Thornhill but I don't know anyone who has one of these so I was wondering can anyone shed any light on this?? Please help!! :)

I used to have a Jorge Canves Thornhill for my wide Paint mare. She took the 34" tree. It was the only off-the-shelf saddle that remotely came close to fitting her. It was pretty nice especially for the price. I now have a custom Albion. :D

Have owned two Duetts and still have one. Love them. Designed from pommel to cantle, seat to leathers to fit the wide bodied horse. Very comfy, well made, reasonably priced.

Get a wither tracing and send it to Nancy Temple at Duett. She'll let you try up to four saddles at a time.

Duetts are pretty nice :) Good luck!

My suggestion is a Passier Paxton! I have worked in several tack shops and fitted them to MANY Draft/TB crosses, they were often the ONLY saddle that fit. The Paxton has a cut back tree that fits the TB "shark withers" often associated with a Daft/TB cross, yet is wide enough to fit the thicker back an and body. If you can find one at local tack store take it on trial, you wont be disappointed.

If you want a less expensive alternative, check out the Wintec Wide and the Thorowgood saddles. They're both synthetic, but good saddles.

I have a Thorowgood Griffin, x-wide tree. It's great. :)

Definitely look into the Duett saddles. Are they the greatest quality saddles? No, but they are an excellent quality to price saddle.

I have the Duett Rondo in the 36 cm tree. I love it. I like how the panels are wide and the tree is hoop-shaped - perfect for my wide, flat-backed little leg-at-each-corner pone.

Something with a wither? Duetts probably won't fit so well. Does your horse have the TB wither?

Thanks for the advice...I have looked into the Wintec wide but sadly it only goes to an 18" which is to small for me :( I would love to have an Albion but since my daughter rides also and I just dropped a small fortune on a custom saddle for her I get the cheap stuff...such sacrifice!! :) Max had absolutley NO withers what so ever he is like a Huge 17.3 hand overstuffed couch...he is the love of my life but dang difficult to find tack for at all!!!
