I have a 8 week old bottle calf who for the past 24 hours has been acting oddly. He's still eating well, but seems to have lost some of his muscle function and is finding it hard to stand up and stay standing. I've never had cows before, and my new vet is strictly a horse vet.
Can anyone weigh in with suggestions or advice please? This is new territory for me!

I would ask your vet to recommend another vet then, he must know of someone else??
If he doesn't, call around your self or go on line and google for a vet that does dairy cows, there has to be one in NH.
I would definitly get a vet out there.

You really need someone familiar with calves to look at him.
I would look for another vet, or call your local cattle sale barn and ask who they use or would recommend.
It could be anything, from coccidiosis to an upper respiratory bug or some other intestinal one.
If you have more calves, they also may come down with whatever it is and you can lose them too, if you are not on the ball there.
No telling, really, but little bottle calves tend to at times just die on you, if you are not very experienced at raising them.

Google "large animal vet + (your area) " if that fails, look in your phone book for vets and ask for a recommendation ... there must be farm vets in your area if you have a calf.
Do you have a cattle farmer in your area? Drop by... they won't mind.... and ask who they use. Farmers are a helpful lot.

The link I posted in my other reply is a list of all licensed NH vets that I got when I googled dairy vets in NH, it pulled up the list...
I bet if you call a couple, one of them will be able to direct you to a vet who does dairy or other cows...
