Would a saddler be able to shorten a too long flap? I have funky legs where my knee to ankle is super short so even some standard flaps tend to be a little long. Since I don't have the money to go custom, I'm hoping that this is something that would be feasible. Most of the saddles I'm looking at are not plain flaps. Anyone know how much this might cost?

No idea on cost but I would think that this would not be a major project. It might affect saddle resale value, however! :)

If you've got a "name" saddle (like Stubben) I'd call the maker or their rep. and see what they can do for you. If it's not, then look for saddler in your area and git 'er done.

My Passier Antares had its flaps shortened by its previous owner. So I was happy to get it at a reasonable price. My saddle fitter thought someone had done a pretty good job, but they weren't perfect. There was a previous post on this a month or so ago. The other poster was probably going to try a Western saddler to do it. That could work too as they seem really good with their cutting tools. Or a chapmaker. . . .??

any leather worker would be able to do it.... now as far as doing it properly, that's not so sure.
If it is a high end saddle, you're better off contacting the manufacturer and trying to have the whole flaps replaced.

Absolutely. Cost depends on if it's a plain flap, or if there's padding, extra stitching etc.

Sue Schurer at http://www.schurersaddlefit.com/ is FABULOUS.

If you go to the duett site, there are several saddlers listed there who do it.
