As you may know, yesterday Aug 4, the USEF changed the regular smalls from Friday/Saturday to Thursday/Friday because of the number of entries

Entries closed Wednesday July 15th. So who is the brainiac that waited until the day before the NATIONAL PONY FINALS to decide the schedule would change? Do they not think friends, parents, siblings or grand parents might have made plans to come watch. I think it is great that the entries are huge. It says our sport must be doing OK in these tough economic times. BUT, the entries closed 4 weeks ago. What have they been doing??? Did they just get around to counting the entries? Any ideas?? Am I missing something??

Did the previous day's rain have anything to do with the rescheduling?

The announcement says "Due to an unprecedented number of ponies entered in the Regular Pony Division, the following schedule change has been made"

There is a difference between the number of ponies entered, than the actual number that show up. Perhaps there were fewer scratches this year prior to PF starting. Also, you can still enter after the closing date, you just pay more.

Not the rain. The numbers in the class. And they do NOT have lights, the only ring with them is booked for something else. They also have special activities schedualed after the classes and if they ran way over, the kids would be disappointed they missed them.

It seems like a long time ago since entries closed but it's, really, THREE weeks (as of today) to put all these huge classes together. The show manager never knows until they ship in whether they will show or not. You' be surprised how many enter first and decide later whether to actually go, scratch or never show up on the grounds at all with shows like this. Edited to add they CAN post enter and, apparently, alot did just that.

Don't forget there are some big barns involved here...not all are the single owner-they may enter 4 and show 2. Some use exclusively catch riders as well, there can be conflicts and get one left at home. Or they enter 2 ahead and post enter the other 2.

So, yesterday they did know exactly how many shipped in and will actually show (unless they break). USEF rules allow schedual changes with appropriate time and notification and also stipulate on the preliminary schedual that is IS subject to change. the final class schedual is the one the office provides at check in...and even that can change.

I know it's a bummer these went to the weekday from the weekend but something had to move, Smalls got the short straw...or their numbers would fit with whatever else was schedualed as that's usually the smaller numbers then the Meds or Larges. It happens.

Unfortunately, it appears that the management is catering to those late entries. Shame on them! There is a simple solution. Accept a realistic number of entries to fit the schedule. First come-first serve. Everyone could understand weather related problems but certainly not wishywashy management. I bet there will be some upset small pony people!
