Online bidding this year!

Good luck to all sellers!!!

Anyone have a favorite in the sale?

Looks like the Sale Preview which was to be this morning at 9am, has been delayed until tomorrow, due to thunderstorms.

Oh my, I had to stop looking, it's like walking into a candy shoppe.

My daughter is turning seven.... why can't she be more interested in competing? I'd have an excuse to buy one or two!

Hmmm maybe I just need to adopt a pony crazy kid to go WITH the pony.

You can adopt me. Please. :D

I like 105, but that rider makes it look smaller than 14 hands to me... I also like 90 and 96. But you know, I'd take any of them really.

I went to the site to check out the preview and it says that it is postponed until tomorrow, due to weather. How will that affect the auction itself?

pwynnnorman
Aug. 4, 2009, 12:56 PM
I went through the catalogue dreaming about who I'd buy to breed to Kevvie. These were the ones I'm watching: 5, 22, 31, 43.

One question about one though: Doesn't #6 look like tiny for being almost 13.2h? Do you think that's a typo?

It won't. Rain is forecast to end this evening and be gone. They can work around it and adjust and it is inside anyway.

Are they using the new indoor? Per the other thread, the old indoor is a swimming pool.

(Farnley Belshazzar (Welsh) x Simply Sexy (QH)) Multiple Champion in S/M Children's Pony Hunter. Perfect pony to take your rider from short stirrup to regular medium pony hunter. Eligible Green.

Lands End festival was a greener mare i think and she was a mare. people seem to have issues with mare but i think its all in their head. Theres a difference between a true welsh pony and a hunter pony registered as welsh too. this pony had more welsh type i think and was a bit on the green side for what people are shopping for there

I think your just fine. the glenhaven ponies are wonderful and he is a great pony. people at PF are looking for packers, not projects. if the thing isnt a saint for the 50million kids trying them, they wont bid on them. there are MANY greenies that are young and inexperienced going for nothing. keep the miller pony. hes a nice boy.

the auctioneers rotate in so frequently that you don't notice that it is actually multiple people. At least this is my (limited) experience at these sales.

pretty cool how things have evolved and I am watching live from Idaho. some glitches but still amazing.

prices I think have been more even than last year. Reality...it only takes two committed buyers to fall for the same pony and drive the pony's price UP.

I love the look of Cheers. curious to see how prices go towards the end. normally...they decline

If you have time, could you please elaborate. My daughter is 2 and I am watching this year to learn for the future.

OK ill do the best i can to make it make sense. One of my biggest pet peeves about the welsh show ring right now is ponies being bred for the hunter ring being pinned above the ponies who truly look and are bred to be welsh ponies. A hunter pony is bred to look sort of like a mini-TB. the hunter ponies are bred to be low, ground covering movers with swooping trots and canters. While the jump between a hunter pony and a welsh pony doesnt really differe their conformation and way of going many times does.

For instance:

We have a 17 yr old Section B Stallion. (You would never guess hes that old). He is by Rotherwood Crown Prince (imported from UK) and out of CC Echo (by Findeln Blue Danube). Our stallion is a handsome looking fellow but unlike the hunter ponies, he has a tad more bone. Hes refined through his head, and his neck is a bit higher set through his shoulders and withers compared to where the hunter pony necks come out of their back, withers and shoulders. His neck is crestier (he is also a stallion) and his back is short and his body compact and well put together. the main focus is on the bone. here. he's not heavy but hes not dainty. He has a beautiful way of going, sometimes floating across the ground, but he's not on his "tippy toes" and he has a lot of power from the hind end, unlike the hunter ponies who are swooping and the main focuz is entirely on the front end.

For the hunter ponies, people want dainty, refined, and pretty. floaty trots but not lofty. they dont want too much motor comming from the hind end, but they want the movement to look effortless. the more toe pointing, the better. when looking at a hunter pony conformationally people want something that sort of looks throughbredy. leaner, less bone, refined through the head and neck, not too thick, and well conformed

This is a hunter pony:

http://www.justforponies.com/newsletters/images/52007May/JackRabbitPA.jpg

http://www.beallspringfarm.com/images/0PONIES/FM-Cheers.jpg

And here are some purebred welsh's

Section A:

http://www.lingardswood.co.uk/images/export/img004.jpg

Section B: (our stallion is built a lot like this one)

http://www.wildzang.com/images/shamrockmisteroliver2.jpg

http://www.llanarth.uk.com/images/douthwaitesignwriter1.jpg

Here is an Entire Gallery of Section B Welsh ponies taken by Gail and Arthur Thompson of Gayfields Welsh:

http://gayfieldswelshponies.com/news/royalwelshB08.html

And here is an Entire Gallery of Section A ponies taken by Gail & Arthur:

http://gayfieldswelshponies.com/news/royalwelshA08.html

The main difference between the two (hunter pony and welsh pony) are Type. A hunter pony can be a registered welsh pony but not have the true welsh type. I have a pure bred welsh Section B mare who who has cleaned up in the hunter ring, won ribbons at PF, and did great in the pleasure/hunter divisions at the welsh shows but we have never once showed her conformationally at a welsh show because she just isn't a "welsh pony". Greenfield's ponies have done very well for themselves in the hunter ring and also very well in the welsh ring. Greenfields ponies (GF prefix) tend to resemble true welsh ponies, as do Farnley and Shenandoah ponies. These ponies could do very well in the hack and the o/f portion but if they are not conformationally a hunter pony, hunter pony buyers tend to not like that as much. If they are going to buy a hunter pony, they want the entire package. conformation is the number one thing (besides movement) that hunter pony buyers look at.

To me; the over fences portion is the most important. I saw a lot of beautiful looking ponies conformationally and undersaddle do very well in those two portions at pony finals...BUT they sucked pond water over fences. a pony can look pretty and move pretty but if it cant jump a course with some grace and athletecism, its just not worth it to me.

this is the difference. this is the biggest problem with the welsh world in the united states at the moment (i think). Too many breeders changing the welsh breed into hunter ponies and we're loosing the true type of the welsh pony. Most welsh shows have a US judge and a UK judge. Watch how differently those two judges many times tend to pin the classes (especially the Section A's and Section B's). Many times the true welsh ponies will get shafted for the hunter type pony. its sad but its the reality of what its come to. Not saying the hunter ponies arnt nice; because they are absolutely stunning ponies; just NOT true (type-wise) welsh ponies

Hope that helps

This is depressing. Some very nice ponies, some even made and ready for kids, are going for pennies on the dollar. The Clainfair baby is by a very nice *Telynau stallion. I saw his YouTube video and he is quietly jumping around and swapping leads. The Devon class winner is sitting at $5k. So sad!!
