Just heard from the Repro vet... Thoroughbred that has had 5 foals, and a IIA Biopsy. Pinched a twin at 15 days. Normally, at home, we check at 25-26 days for a heartbeat. Anyways, mare's tone was very good, and had no edema. They said that she was "squirming around quite a bit", and they wanted to check her again the middle of next week. I'm going to bring her home, and just have her checked at around 45 days, as I don't want to rebreed this year anyways.
So, how common is it to not be able to find a heartbeat at 24 days? Should I be worried yet?

Seems like the heartbeat would be the tiniest little fleck at 24 days? We normally wait til between 30 and 45.. usually closer to 45, if I am remembering correctly.

We usually wait until 28 days to check for a heartbeat. Does she know for sure when she ovulated, just wondering as that could also put her a day or so out. However, I would not panic and recheck her in 4-5 days or so.

I think 24 is a little early. Generally check at about 28.

We do not check til 28 days either. That being said, today we did check a 26 dayer -as the vet was already out. And it was there.
But I would not worry yet about the 24 day. too early.

23-24 days is the earliest that it is possible to detect, but I wouldn't worry if not found at 24. When I check, it is about day 26 - 28.

We aim for 30 days to see it. I just saw a heartbeat at day 27 on one of mine.
