My mare was pregnant and she lost her foal between day 30 and day 60. We are going to breed her again in a couple of weeks. Has anyone had success with breeding the second time after they have slipped the foal the first time? TIA

Yes, I have! As long as the mare comes back into season and ovulates you can breed her. You may just want to check on the health of her uterus in case she slipped because of some infection. I had a mare that slipped between 30 and 60 days [May and August]and I bred her with frozen semen in October. She settled and we are waiting for a very late baby...

If they lose the pregnancy after 35 days the endometrial cups will probably have formed. If that is the case, he mare will usually not come back into season for months. Time will tell whether she comes back in. You also will want to try to figure out why the mare lost the pregnancy and address it if possible.

Agree with Home Again Farm. At this stage, I think you'd be very hard pressed to have her breedable again this year at all ...

This is exactly correct. Usually the endometrial cups have formed around 35 days. In those mares that lose a pregnancy after the endometrial cups have formed, they generally don't cycle until the following season. If it were my mare, I would certainly have a culture/sensitivity done and a uterine biopsy. However, some mares abort for unknown reasons and that could be the case here.

Last year I had to abort my mare at 38 days because we discovered a twin. She didn't cycle until early winter.
