Repairs to Ariat Monaco Tall boots

Yesterday someone gave me a pair of Monaco field boots b/c they had ripped/gotten a hole in the leather stretch panel. They took them back to the tack store where they bought them and when the store contacted Ariat they said to destroy (trash) them. So... I'm the lucky trash can. They fit me wonderful and I so lucked into them. I know these boots are fairly new, but has anyone taken them to get leather repaired on them before? I'm considering taking them to the woman who did my custom half chaps and seeing what she can do. I don't even really need the stretch panel anymore because they already are so broken in, so I wonder if she can replace part of that with just regular leather?

Why not just get it patched?

There are some for sale on ebay cheap that had the same sort of repair.

Just get them patched. I actually have to take my Vogels in to get a patch at the end of this show season because I have a small hole on the inside of the calf. We have a local place that works on riding boots, and they told me it wouldn't be a big deal to fix or cost much either.
