Okay, I've been accused of picking hideous trot photos from someone I trust so please pick the best trot photo. I know the poll only allows picking the best so you can just mention which is the worst? Photo #1,2,3 or 4 if you like. I tend to have a hard time discerning what I consider a very good picture of my baby and what someone else would consider a picture of a very good horse. I hope that made some sence. comments about your choice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I'll let you know which was my favorite soon.

Too bad 2 is from the rear, as he looks the most balanced in that one.

I agree I like 2 the best but because it's from the rear I like 4.

#2 as well

But personally, none are what I would really want to show as far as photos go. Do you have others to choose from?

Were these taken at an inspection? In other words, is there some reason to choose from these particular shots? I know they are with a handler, and the foal is braided and looks lovely.

But as PHOTOGRAPHS, I don't like any of them. It's not the foal's trot stride I'm reacting to -- some of those are quite nice (I would probably use/post both 2 and 4). But the lighting in general is poor, making it hard to distingish foal legs from mare legs, and foal head from mare body. The day was probably very sunny, causing lots of shadowing, and the background is distracting.

So if you wanted to get website or sales photos of the foal, I would plan something different. If you want to pick the best inspection photos, I'd go with 2 and 4.

I like 2 the best in terms of movement too. The gait looks the most correct and balanced.

It's really hard to take a good horse picture, but I am constantly amazed by the beautiful pictures taken by the talented breeders on this board. Having more time definitely helps. The short time of going once around the triangle always poses a challenge to the photographers.

I know she's very young, but she looks like she's on the right lead in #4.

I agree, 2 or 4... Probably I'd go with 4 though, only because you can see more of her, not just from the back. I agree though, that I wouldn't post any of them for sale pictures if your looking to sell her with them.

BTW Chris, will Panzyr be presented this year at ISR/OLD at SV? :)

These photos were from her inspection. This particular filly is already sold but when getting photos for sales horses do you usually use inspection photos or have separate photo shoots? Use a professioanl photographer or do it yourself?

I agree with everyone that I like two trot photo best except for the angle. So I would probably pick 4 if I had to pick one.

Another vote that 2 is showing the best movement, but the angle is funky, 4 is my 2nd choice - although the angle is better, the lighting perhaps a bit better, I don't think either picture is fabulous. The other two aren't in the running at all.

I do a lot of photography, and can tell you, the trick to good pictures is to understand lighting, then take a lot of photos and have the eye to pick out the decent ones;)

In response to your questions - I usually do my own pictures (for both myself and my friends). If you have a decent camera (sufficient zoom in the lens and fast speed, i.e. SLR), you can set up some pretty nice photos with a friend to help. You can either shoot at an inspection, or just clean them up and braid them, and shoot at home. It does take at least two people to do decent pics though!

I would also choose 2 or 4 if no other was available, but for a dressage foal, I prefer to capture the part of the stride that shows the expression - the "lift" of the front leg, and bend of he hocks. In the lift part, the front leg will be curved, as it is the "roundness" of the gaits that I want to show, not the length. It happens just a moment before the front leg straightens. Sometimes though, you will also get a shot that shows a break in the topline, and the front end of the horse "dropping" like your #3, and that is definitely not what you want. For a Hunter baby, you want the straight leg float, but reaching out toward the ground.

I like #2, but it's from behind. #4 is my second choice.
