Starting to look around for a new helmet. I have a very tiny head (youth size) and would like a low profile helmet. Any suggestions? I do jumpers and eventing and would prefer to not have anything with velvet. What are your favorites? Thanks.

What is your price limit? Personally I love these helmets!

EDIT: When you say velvet do you mean like the covering on the helmet that EventerOP suggested? Also, since you have a youth size head, it might be difficult to find a helmet without velvet or a velvet like covering.

Even though I don't event anymore, I still love my Charles Owens GR8. I found it at a consignment shop in NC for $65. I have a small head, 6 7/8. It was in the original box and I don't think it was ever used. I found the CO J3 skull cap with cover about three weeks later in box new for $35.00!

I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I try to look first at Ebay then consignment and tack shop sales.

Wow! What was the name of that tack shop? You wouldn't happen to want to sell that CO J3 would you? haha. I have the same size head.

I just got the helmet forester posted. Had to send it back once to get one smaller- ended up with a 6 5/8- but now it fits great and I love it! Thought it might end up being a bit hot (had a tipp. sportage before) but thus far I haven't been bothered by the Virginia heat one bit!

I love my GR8, but have recently bought a CO JR8 that I use for everyday. Protection is as good, harness is less fancy, but it is $135 with free shipping from Adams Horse Supply, comes in small sizes and is low profile

If you're looking for an affordable helmet, I like this one: http://www.vtosaddlery.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=VTO&Product_Code=AAH&Category_Code=.

For Charles Owen, I like the Wellington Pro. I also love my GPA (though not the price tag...mine should have been replaced a while ago but I can't afford a new one and it's too comfortable to part with!). ANDDDD, if I had a youth-sized head, I would get the Jimpi in an INSTANT. I thought they were silly looking when they first came out, but now I think they're so adorable. http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-36234&ids=36385138

I love my Charles Owen helmets... I recently got a JR8 for schooling but show in it because it's so comfortable, but nothing beats my J3. :)

I love the Troxel Grand Prix...but that has velvet. It is low profile and fits smaller heads.

Charles Owen hands down. When I go to put my Tipperary on after riding in my Charles Owen, it feels like junior varsity protection and the Charles Owen is the real deal!

Have two now - skull cap for every day/XC, velvet for dressage/stadium.

Charles Owen hands down.

I put one on two years ago and won't buy anything else. Comftorable, excellent protection, gorgeous.

Love my Chuck Owen (J3) and my GPA (mostly sits on the shelf....too expensive to wear every day). I ride every day (lately) in one of the new Tipperary Sportage. Comfy and cool and not that bad looking anymore. It is way cheaper to replace if I fall too. They are coming out with a skull soon and I will probably get one of those as well if they are cheap.

I love my Tipp! But, am hoping to upgrade to a IRH Xtreme soon as birthday time is rolling around. I was very impressed at how nice it looked and it felt ***fabulous*** when I tried it on. That said, I also liked the CO Pro Skull 2, but I really wanted more vents.

If I ever go back to hunterland, then the CO Hampton would be on my wish list. I'm an old school woman and for hunters, I want a velvet with tan harness. ;)

I LOVE my Charles Owen Pro II. It's super light and comfortable. I'm not thrilled with the included cover but that's easily fixed... I'm also from hunter roots so I shudder at the pink and yellow versions but the traditional black is very nice looking.

I actually picked mine up for less than $120 brand new on eBay...

For dressage/SJ I use an IRH helmet -- I have a TINY head and it fits well. I use the Tipp for everything else.

Loved the original Tipp, but neither of the two later versions have worked. Will try the JR 8 next.
