I want to see weanling trot pictures. They don't have to be from this year. Please add what your foal was bred for (Hunters, Dressage, Jumpers, etc) as well as age. Here are two from last week of my baby at 3 months old:

Those MUST be photoshopped!
EVERYONE knows that weanlings dont trot! They stand still. Leap. Gallop. Stand still. Repeat ... ;)
LOVELY baby however you got her to trot ... ;)

I have seen my schroeder colt trot twice!! And he is 3 months old, once was from a pictures from when he first came home from the foaling facility, I was not there. The 2nd time was at the show, and I was trotting him in hand, so I technically didn't "see" it.

Not sure if you wanted to see ponies or not, but here is my girl from last Saturday:
5 1/2 months old, bred for Dressage, in hopes of still maintaining some jumping talent. Sire is my Welsh stallion, dam is a very nice sport-type Arabian mare.

These are both by Bravo. The first is 2007 site champion, Brando, out of Fuerst Honour/Fuerst Ramses/Bleep and the 2nd is 2008 site champion, Bravo's First Class, out of Faunja/First Class. Both are shown at approx. 3 months.
Bravo also just scored a 2009 site champion, Bijoux de Bravo, out of Wind in the Willows/Walter Scott/Sender. She scored a 8.7 for movement and I'll add her trot picture as soon as I get the disc.

It IS hard to catch those babies in the trot - I have hundreds of canter photos, and just a few trot photos. Here are some various babies at roughly 3 to 6 months, mostly bred for dressage:

Well, I agree with those who have said that foals don't actually trot at the foal age, of course!! They gallop, buck, rear and play especially during inspections when you need to see the trot...LOL.
I would have had some lovely trot photos, if only our colt had co-operated and done it when I could get a side shot....instead I have front shots.

This was taken on a day that Reg Corkum showed up unannounced on my farm for a 10 minute visit. I pulled out my baby, just to chase him around a bit, and of course Reg had to grab his camera. Sometimes you get lucky with a trot shot. Wish I could have prepared for the photo shoot, but ya know, THEN he would not have trotted!

OK, I think someone needs to start a weanling bucking/leaping photo thread:lol: I bet you'll get a much higher response rate.
I'm kind of curious - how many of you have seen your foals trot MORE than three steps when they were under a week old? PP - you posted a picture - but did you get lucky and get the only two steps of trot that cutey showed:lol: I swear, most of my babies have NOT trotted at all until they were two months or older. The three gaits were walk, canter, leap.
Nice babies everyone!

Actually I see a lot of nice trot the first week - especially the first few days out as long as the foal does not have things going on with newborn pastern weakness, etc. As for the few steps, I really don't consider it trot unless they can sustain what they are doing, and fall into a rhythm. That is when I can evaluate the trot. This is the time I am seeing dressage type trot (elevation and expression), not the hunter type trot, as that has to come more thru a relaxed back, and lowered head/neck.

One reason that nice straight legged, hunter type, trot shot is hard to get is that often fast growing babies are a bit tight in the tendons. It is uncomfortable for them to straighten their front legs during that period. Once they are weaned, and the tendons catch back up to their bones, they can do that toe pointing, leg straight out trot again.

Wow- some flashy trots on these babes!! What's even harder then getting a baby to trot is getting the picture at JUST the right moment. I have lots and lots of galloping, cantering, and rearing thought! I don't have one decent trot shot of a suckling/weanling.

This is Aubrey (Apiro/Aurora Regina TB.) I can take zero credit for how beautifully this breeding worked. It is our own "Galileo" who owns the mare and sold this lovely boy to me. My hope is the hunter ring down the road.
I must give huge credit to Draygonfyne for this photo. She has an incredible eye.

Here is my Sambuca (Sunny Boy/Glorieux) out of Golden Sunrise (Elito/Golden Profitxx) colt. They are not the best...but it gives you an idea, he never seemed to trot when I wanted pics!! He was bred for an all around event/jumper/dressage horse as he has great lines for all 3 in him. He is very smart and brave, combined with LOTS of movement so I think he will excell in pretty much anything you throw at him!!

10 Weeks again... (http://www.elegantexpressionsfarm.com/images/for%20sale%20pics/2008Foal/04May08/SamTrot04May08a.jpg)
And just because I *have* to....here he was at 14 months old (http://www.elegantexpressionsfarm.com/images/for%20sale%20pics/2008Foal/EEFSampson23April2009/trotFree.jpg)
and the last one...again 14 months... (http://www.elegantexpressionsfarm.com/images/for%20sale%20pics/2008Foal/EEFSampson23April2009/trotFree2.jpg) sorry about the last 2...I couldn't help it :D

Beautiful baby Quinn. This is Ruby Shoes by Redwine, the photo was taken last week at her inspection. She's going to be a hunter.

Paula, those are lovely shots! What faces on those babies :)
Ronda--how did I not know that we both had babies named Jet(te)? So funny! I had no idea!
I'm jealous--I've seen exactly two trot steps from my little dude. He much prefers RUNNING!!!!!! or sleeeping :)
My only evidence that trot exists somewhere:
