Fly sheets, turnouts, blankets, etc?

What sizes have you all used for yearlings? Which brands have more/less built in range as far as sizing, to allow for growth?

At the moment, I'm thinking in terms of fly/sunblocking turnout sheets--and gotten a recommendation for Amigo. Any others out there?

what I have found to be the problem with blankets on yearlings (and I bet you have too!) is that they may be quite big, and long - but they are often narrow still through the chest, so the blanket that fits them otherwise is too big in front.
I have had good luck with Bakers mainly because they are usually narrower in the chest area.

I'll think about this some more.

I have a Hug flysheet on my yearling, and I'm very pleased with it. It fits well through the neck, which, as Fred said, is the problem with young horses. I have Bakers on my older horses and like them too. I think they could be a good choice for a yearling. Both Bakers and Hugs are made of tough material, so they have held up well. That said, I had to have the plastic belly snap replaced with a metal fitting within the first week. Plastic fitting and horses don't work well together.

oooh great idea!!!

I've got a yearling fly mask on my 15 month old but it's almost too small. But I don't think he'll fit in the horse one...
So I guess I'll try arab. He's in a medium arab halter.

I too was wondering though about a blanket!!! I know he shouldn't *need* one, but.... I get cold...think they are cold.... So just in case ;)

Absolute BEST place to buy blankets! They make an Adjusta Front that allows you to control the width (or lack of in the case of most yearlings) of the front end of the blanket - GENIUS :D

I used the Smartpak thinsulate blankets on my yearlings last winter. They are cut a little shorter and the neck openings fit perfectly. I was amazed at how well they held up. My boys play rough! The thinsulate was warm without being bulky. The pink and blue argyle look very cute. :)

By two, they were big enough for Pessoa turnout sheets. Except for the tail flaps that last about ten minutes, the Pessoas have outlasted everything else I've tried, but they were too big on the yearlings.
