my mare is a lost cause so I have this mare as a possible option. I don't know much about the TB lines. I'm looking for hunters...and I own the breeding already for the stallion....
Thanks!

I looked at buying that mare - like everything about her
If you dont have pictures of her, let me know and I can forward them on to you - I am 99% certain I still have them in my emails

I saw this over on H/J and will repeat here.
I have an old mare that has very similar breeding to Yellow Creek...the Mahmoud/Olden Times/Bold Ruler and there has been a thread on her sire, April Ax who has the Bold Ruler/Mahmoud connection. Has some nice Hunters. all look alike and like mine, should come up on a search for April Ax...and he was shipped back to France and ended up siring Sport Horses, approved in several stud books for WBs. So was Mahmoud who started in France, shipped here then shipped back. good using horse line-mainly grass horses at the track. Big bodied but not tall and with refinement.
I dunno about your mare though. Is she...um....a little difficult? She's rasing the baby and if she is kind of a jerk or prone to sudden flipping out? But if she's OK, you may be alright and the nick will work.

I think in all fairness the Storm Cat influence can be "overrated". Ive come across some Storm Cat's that were total jerks and some that were as sweet as could be. They dont suffer fools all that well but if tactfully and reasonably handled they were fine ...
And the 2 crosses to Ribot are far enough back in this mare's pedigree they dont concern me at all ...

Not just the Storm Cat, I was looking at it combined with the Mr P...and I had one of those-who was a jerk. Some have had good luck with them, others have not. Combined with the SCs, it is worth a mention and consideration before tying up this mare for 2 years. That's why I asked if the mare was reasonable or flew off at their whim because that's what some of these out of both lines seem to do. They just lose it. Others don't, which type is she...and be honest.
Also worth noting most of this has been with the boys, most of the examples have been geldings, any experience or theories about the girls out of these two lines?

I've only had mares with Ribot closer up than this girl has and not a double dose of him either and they could be "particular" about how they wanted things done ...
The SC's this close up, even in mares, I didnt have any issues with. Maybe its SC combined with testosterone that creates worse issues???

On Ribot - I have this mare
http://www.pedigreequery.com/kinkled
which has the Ribot to Tom Rolfe, and Ribot to Graustark (but flipped) and she's in general very easy and sweet tempered to work with. She was panicky over being saddled and she tends to have thoroughbred feet (flatter, thinner wall, can bruise if without shoes and a hack trims her), but she's a nice hunter mover, big shoulder, great butt, good bone for a tb. Although she's that very daisy cutter type of movement that isn't preferred for the wb registries, she was given a good score on movement based on correctness and ease. Basically, she's pretty sensible and friendly gets along well with other horses (a bit of a kick and ear pin for the geldings who thing they aren't cut) and but for her panicky reaction to being saddled initially she's fun and easy to have around. Ez keep for a tb. But that's just my one experience with those lines - good luck.

I wouldn't do it. I'd use a stallion like Yellow Creek on a WB mare.
As great as those bloodlines are, you can currently buy REALLY NICE 3 and 4 year old young TB sport prospects for very little money. They cost far less then it costs to raise them.
I can fix you up with a few if you want!!!
In my opinion, right now it just doesn't make sense to breed full TBs for sport.
BUT...I'm sure lots of people will disagree:):)

Quite true, vandenbrink----especially in this economy. It is much easier to buy one at 3-4 and you can see what you get. In the end, it will cost you less.
But like we say---lots of people may disagree.;)
