Has anyone here used it? Do you like the feed? Palatable? Do you need to add anything to the feed to maintain coat quality? Any info would be great, thanks.

My hard keeper OTTB loves it! He was being really picky about his grain until we cut back on the regular pellets/CarbGuard and added this! He looks GREAT, too...nice weight finally and his coat is beautiful.
I took him to a small schooling show last week and barely groomed and he looked amazing, his coat was just gleaming. He does also get corn oil in his feed.

It is an extruded feed which is nice for digestability, higher in fat, high in fiber. Low starch, though I don't know the exact stats offhand. It was easy for my guy to chew and he liked it well enough.
Because it is extruded and looks like rice puffs, it is rather lightweight, so you have to feed more volume. I didn't like that so much.
Theoretically my gelding should have been the ideal candidate for it, but he dropped weight very quickly after about a month's trial. It also seemed to make him hot and my guess is the corn was the culprit. Maybe the sensitivity contributed to the weight loss as he was a ball of nerves the whole time he was on it. Also I wonder if there was just too much fiber and he was having trouble digesting it.
So, I wasn't as thrilled with it as I'd hoped I'd be. I do like Blue Seal products though. After a trial on a ration balancer where he dropped a lot of weight (mainly because I think he dropped more of the pellets than he actually consumed) I'm back to the Senior + Winning Touch Sunshine which seems to keep the weight on and also maintain his topline.

My guy has been on a whole foods diet, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE for him, but it's not realistic for his situation in the long run, so unless I can find a mill to make something to my specifications (tried it, 3 ton minimum order), I am going to have to find a normal feed that comes out of a bag, which is why I ask. One thing I do not miss about processed commercial feeds is constantly having to play catch up and supplementing things missing in the diet. Right now, I can tweak as much as I need to with proportions depending on what he needs...

Yeah I know just what you mean! I've had the same issue. If you are boarding it gets very hard to feed anything that doesn't come right out of a bag. I understand why, it is just frustrating.
Progressive Feeds is good high quality stuff. Might be worth looking in to. They are not available all over the place but they will drop ship, I believe it is a 500# minimum (about 10 bags.) They have a lot of nice products. I love their stuff.... but for some reason my horse's system likes Blue Seal Senior. LOL.

My 16 yr old gelding is on it but I am not thrilled...the mare gets Carb Gard and looks great, but he is not holding his weight well at all :(
Thinking of switching him to the Carb Guard! Thought the Vintage Performace would be better since it is extruded, but we are feeding him a lot to sit in the field and do nothing and he still doesn't look good. He is not a hard keeper normally. It's also extremely expensive at almost $20/bag near me.
Just my 2 cents.

Love the stuff! My two TB's are on it (along w/ Vintage Senior) - one is 29 and looks amazing. Highly recommend the stuff .

Most of my horses liked it and looked good on it, but my 2 hardest keepers lost condition.

My other option would be Pennfield Fibergized. Any opinions on that? This horse is a hard keeper, and he's a hunter, so he needs to be round and in show shape.

We like the Vintage LS but also love the Blue Seal Demand - it is 16% protein, 6 1/2 % fat (I think) and NO corn at all.My tb mare got fat on this - it is not expensive at all, it is very heavy (1.45 lbs per quart) so volume-wise you are feeding less. It is a pellet but all my horses eat it with no pickiness at all. : )

I wasn't too thrilled with it. I had a hard keeper TB with a sensitive stomach last winter... it worked alright at best, but I had to feed a whole lot of it. Blue Seal has better products out there.
