I realize there have been quite a few threads on soy free feeds/supplements lately, and I have read through them but do not have a definitive answer to this. I'm considering both Nutrena Empower and Cool Calories 100. Can anyone who is currently feeding one of these products check the ingredient label for me and confirm if there is any soy in either of these products? I have checked the manufacturers' websites with no luck, and have also e-mailed the manufacturers but have not yet gotten a response. My local feed store carries Nutrena but is out of Empower temporarily so could not check the label for me (and didn't know off the top of their heads).

No soy in the cool calories. It is purely a pelleted flavored fat.

Just got a reply back from a Nutrena rep, and he confirmed that Empower DOES contain soy - both soy meal and soy oil. Also, Cowgirl09 is correct, the manufacturer of Cool Calories confirmed that there is no soy, just palm oil.

Really? (Re Empower.) Damn. It used to be Soy free. And the label hasn't changed.

atr - I have been hearing/reading conflicting information about the soy content of empower, and was suspicious given the protein content of it, which is why I went "straight to the horse's mouth" so to speak.

Thanks for doing that. Hmmm. Back to the drawing board then.

Why is soy an issue? I am looking at either of these for my mare who is possibly EPSM, waiting for test results in that.

draftgirl, soy generally isn't an issue. In fact, I believe the type of protein available through soy has the best amino acids. Just like with people, however, there are a few horses who are sensitive to soy.
