UG!!! I guess it's kinda worth it though. I mean who knows when it's even gonna be in the US again, and considering it's only like 2 1/2 hours from where I live....

It IS a lot. The eventing package choices were $305 and $390. But my thoughts too... I will kick myself if I don't go when this is in the US, and 3 hours by car from my house.

We purchased the $390 tickets. Now we have to figure out hotels. The WEG housing wants a deposit of ~$490 per room - ridiculous!

I spent $800 on two tickets for the eventing package. Elisha, what is this about housing? We tried calling hotels in the area and they were not booking rooms yet.

We signed up for rooms months ago during the 'urgent you book now' push. It is ridiculous. You sign up, give the MC # and have no idea where the hotel might end up being nor how much it will cost you in the end. I've never seen such a hairbrained system.

It is 10 minutes from where I live and I am still not paying the outrageous ticket prices. I will be going to watch XC, check out the shops and that is it. There are many things that I would rather blow the better part of a grand on.

The Chronicle's editorial this week had a really good point. We want horse sport to be "legitimate". And what do you pay for a ticket to the superbowl? World Series? Big money. People, the WEG is "bigger" than the Olympics for us, right? A true **** course?
Why should we expect bargain basement prices when the best of the world is at our doorstep (and I have to fly to this particular doorstep)
I figured out that by buying individual days for about $350 I can see some GP dressage, nearly all the eventing and a segment of the GP showjumping. I actually thought that was a pretty OK price for 4 days of amazing horse sport.
I'm worried more about the hotel situation.

I don't expect bargain basement prices but I expect realistic prices especially in a down economy and when we are trying to attract non horse people to a sport.
Personally I just want to go and shop. I shouldn't have to pay $95 to shop in the booths.

The Super Bowl is a private party for corporations, their guests and the rich. I guess if that is the direction horse sports are going then that's where they are going. So much for spending most of the last 50 years trying to do away with the title of 'elitist.'
I have been planning to go the the WEG since the day they announced it, I am in Colorado, it is not on my doorstep. And I see no point in going to a venue who's claim to fame is 7 international sports in one place and then watching a Horse Trial. Not my idea of what the Games are about. But to see more than one sport would cost an obscene amount of money.
