I have been doing the same MD schooling shows for the past few years. Ex trainer goes to the same ones. I just am tired of having to see her and the rudeness of the students.

I don't mind driving two hours to a show. I just want good footing, nice jumps, and good parking for the trailer.

I will do northern VA, Fredericksburg and Richmond area.

I do down towards VA beach it is about 3.5 hours. For a day show that is to much driving for one person.

The VHSA web site has the calendar of "associate" shows.

The ones I have particularly liked (not sure if they are all still running) are
Summerplace (near Great Meadow)
Warrenton
Picturesque (just south of Warrenton)
Cedar Run (Woodbridge)
Hazelwood (Fredericksburg)

CHSA shows are normally quite competitive. Our barn sometimes goes to the ones held at Deep Run, Coventry and Stillmeadows. (Richmond area)

Don't leave Fox Chase, in Middleburg, off that list!

In addition to what is mentioned already, depending on where in MD you are coming from you can also look into Frying Pan Park. They host a show (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/fpp/equest.htm) as well as Mark Wonderly on the property (http://www.ahsajudge.com/). River Chase Farm in Aldie is also nice (http://www.riverchasefarm.com/). :)

I'd recomend the CHSA shows. Nice jumps, nice people, great facilities, especially Deep Run. The website is caphsa.org.

Competitive doesn't bother me.

Thanks for all the ideas. We will look into all of those for next year. The Fox Chase one rents stalls so I could bring him up the night before and stay in a B&B. A weekend without hubby...and spending it with my horse.

Deep Run has permanent stabling as well. :)

Deep Run, Coventry, and Rosemount all have permanant stalls. The last few times I was there, Stillmeadows had tent stalls as well.

I think you would enjoy the shows at Frying Pan Park.

Maybe too far away for you, but here are the 2 nicer schooling series we attend regularly.

Four Oaks Farm www.fouroaksfarmva.com

Rivanna Run www.rivannarun.com

Both have nice rings, well set courses and good footing. They are run competently and we never have problems with the management.

Stillmeadows and Deep Run are my favorite. I bring a 5yr old OTTB to lessons at Stillmeadows with Sulu Reed monthly.

Love Four Oaks, so well run and Ailene is just wonderful.

Rivanna Run is ok, footing is a bit too deep for my taste. I've mentioned it to the show manager and was told they were working on correcting that.

Lake of the Woods in Fredericksburg has a nice ring and nice courses with good distances. parking is a bit of a pain.

when I lived in Bethesda, I showed a lot at frying pan park in both hunters and jumpers.

Hazelwild has an indoor and very nice outdoor ring. Rosemount has stabling and two wonderful rings. Parking is great at both places. Whitestone in F'burg is also a very nice place.

Cedar Run does dressage only now.

Summerplace, Frying Pan Park, River Chase, and Picturesque (and Moriah if they try to do them this year) are all in good striking distance of MD. the VHSA website has a large list of schooling shows (under the associate calander).

Lake of the Woods is actually 20-30 minutes west of F'burg, right over the line into Orange County

Someone mentioned Frying Pan Park above. I ditto, ditto, ditto that one and the manager, Chris Monson, is so wonderful to deal with.....

Ok, my bad, I should have said Near Fredericksburg.

There is another batch of schooling shows at Crossing Pointe Farm in Zion Crossroads. It's decent, but the footing is hard as a rock. Won't take any of my 3'ers there. Nice set of jumps and lines seemed to ride well.
