Who's making the trip? I can't believe it's just over a week away!

I'd love to meet any Cothers who will be there. Please feel free to stop by the Virginia stalls and say hello.

We're bringing 3 horses a small and a medium pony, plus one hippology team, one horse bowl team and one team presentation.

Just wanted to say good luck to your kids and creatures!! Have fun!
I remember when I went to Little Rock for Regionals. It was just a little while ago. Keep your car windows up and doors locked when you leave the show grounds late at night; it's an adventurous area :)

My barn is going from NC. 3 are confirmed. 2 more may be going. Taking the trip in two days so the horses can take a rest! NC is light on the entries this year, but it is very far away for us.

How far of a drive is it from NC? Say from the Charlotte/Raleigh/Greensboro areas?

Too far from east Georgia as well. Kind of sorry, haven't missed a Regionals since 1999. Just couldn't put the horses through that haul. Plus our schools start that Monday! Looking forward to South Carolina next year.

To far for most of us Floridians too. I'm sure the state will send out the usual 42 but they might not be our best. My student who made it felt it was too far to go this year. Hopefully we will be there in SC next year.

We qualified to go as well [Sr. Hunter].We had already made the decision to opt out and wait for Clemson . We do have a friend that is going to do the W/P. We are cheering her on. I'm not 100% sure when they have decided to ship out.
I wish everyone luck that is headed out to Ak. Take lots of pics and keep us updated whenever you can.

Hope to meet some of you out there.

We are planning on the straight through express to Little Rock. The handy-dandy AAA Trip Tix says 13 hrs for us, but that's how long it took us to get to Memphis.

Good luck to everyone!

Bybeegirl, if I don't see you beforehand, good luck to everyone going down there! Have a safe trip and stay cool. Hopefully we'll qualify to go to SC next year, but Arkansas was just too far for us too! Take lots of video for us!

I thought this might be the best place to ask this question. I was at a schooling show on Saturday and I heard that the Champion ? Pony was disqualified because it was over sized. I am not sure if it was Junior, but I think so. My daughter rode in Senior Pony classes on Thursday. The trainer said this happened...

Pony looked large to someone, they contested the height. It was measured 4 times, all over 14-2H. Pony had become champion. Child was heart broken of course. Child got to keep ribbons, have picture made, but not the points. Same pony had also in this time won Western Pleasure Pony or something. Again lost points involved.

I could not imagine what the family went through, the pony had to have been measured at the district show. I do remember the trainer specifically saying the pony did not have a USEF permanent card.

Anyone elso hear or know of any of this?

Yes, unfortunately it happened. The pony[?] didn't have a perm card but, did measure height at its District show. They had the measurement card in hand from District however, the protest was upheld.I am hoping that in the future the State show will have a knowledgeable individual to measure ponies and in the event of a question the pony can be bumped up to proper division.

When I showed 4-H years ago there were Several 15 hand honies trotting around in the pony division. Friends/parents/trainers were the ones doing the measuring at the district shows and honies that weren't competitive in the horses were in the pony divisions so they'd smudge the card. I was even protested once but my 14.1 3/4 pony at district was measured as 14.1 at state. Not sure that he shrunk though... just shows that there are lots of discrepancies. I thought that all ponies should be measured at state when they get there by official and/or have a permanent card. USEF is a bit more reputable than a 'trainer' measuring at a district show.

Yes, I made the mistake last year of asking a mother about her "pony"...who was cute as heck but across the arena looked like a good size horse. I asked if her horse was a small horse or large horse . Mother rolled her eyes and said SHE'S A LARGE PONY. Embarrassing..but seeing the same "pony" in the line-up beside my 14.1 pony, there was definitely some "smudging" going on to get that card  But the mother was sure to inform me (before she stalked away ) that the mare has a USEF card.

311 right? Your pony was gorgeous! I was disappointed when I'd heard you'd scratched your o/f because I was really looking forward to watching him go. My big grey was 5th in the geldings and 3rd in the under saddle. Will we be seeing him at states?

Made it home after a long week! This had to be the coolest Regionals temperature-wise I've attended, and I haven't missed one since 1993!

Everyone was able to bring home ribbons in our crowd which was icing on the cake, and I must say VA was well-represented winning the open jumping, pony working hunter, working hunter, hunter u/s, hunter geldings and 1st level dressage, along with countless top tens in the hunter classes.

White Oak, we're from Palmyra. Three good friends that we hauled are from Culpeper.
