I am doing a project looking at who makes nutrition decisions for your horses and I would really appreciate it if you would fill out my quick survey.

Here is the link

Thanks for your time!

Okie Dokie - I did it.

Wish I could have selected more than one reason for feeding what I feed and it would only let me select one choice.

Good Luck!

Hi Bucky ~

We combined your multiple threads on this topic into one here in Horse Care, as we don't like to have topics cross-posted to multiple forums.

Good luck with your project and welcome to the forums!

Done. A little sad but not surprising that TEXTBOOKS and LIBRARIES are not considered a meaningful or commonly-used source for information, but that internet forums are. Call me old-fashioned. :)

Hi Mod1

Ok I understand sorry about that. I was just trying to insure a diverse demographic for responses. So I understand, does this mean the other posts have been removed? The reason I ask is that the more recent posts use a different link to the survey and I want to make sure people are filling in the correct version of the survey.

Thanks for clarifying,

Deltawave I agree. I am surprised how many people said online forum. For some that is their only source of nutrition advice! Obviously the responders all found the survey in an online forum so it isn't so surprising.

I like the fact that I can find a fair amount of that sort of information online. Not so much from internet forums, but I like being able to pull up nutrition recommendations from places like Universities, and compare it to things like the nutrient/ingredient analysis from manufacturors without ever leaving my desk.

And then I can use the forums for things that are more subjective, like "Will my picky picky mare actually eat this supplement?" On more than one occasion the supplement that looked like the right one on paper ended up not being a viable option since the horse wouldn't eat it <sigh>

Books become outdated extremely quickly when it comes to equine nutrition, and it's much harder to find specific information in a book than it is to just hit "search" on Google or Google Scholar. I think there's a reason most folks I know prefer the internet for information over books nowadays.

Yes the internet is so easily search able and there is more current info out there. However there is always the issue that the information may be wrong if not from a credible source. I think using these forums for subjective input as to whether there are palatability issues a good idea. I have seen some amazing things on forums, people saying things about a certain product or way of feeding that is just not true. I am also amazed when I see people come to forums to ask what they should feed there horse and people tell them with no account for the specifics of that individual horse. Amazing!

Thanks again for doing the survey. If I can figure out how to do it I will try to make the results available on here once I close it.
