View Full Version : Pennfield Feed... anyone feed it? Fibergized, GP Granola or one of the Seniors?

I'm looking at the Pennfield feeds and would like some feedback on any of these, both for a young jumper in training or a senior horse. Currently I'm feeding TC Senior to both and am happy with them but still curious about Pennfield experiences. Thanks.

I used to ... until Mr. Joey choked so badly on it (Fibergized) he ended up a Morven hospital for a week ... then had aspiration pneumonia. I thought it was a "accident" until I got him home and was feeding it about a week later ... and TWO horses (including Joey) mildly choked on it.

Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Having said that, you'll find others here that love it. Feed is a very personal issue, I've found.

I use Pennfield and I love it! I have never tried the senior feeds, but have used fibergized and had no problems with it. Big thing with Fibergized is that it does contain beet pulp and you should be careful when feeding if you have a horse that will choke. It does a good job putting weight back on a horse. I used it for a OTTB that was skinny and it put the weight back on beautifully! But now I have been using the pleasure feed since my horses are not being worked hard this year.

Did you know Pennfield is the official feed for the USEF? Pennfield is very proud to be the official feed. Guess I should mention that most of my family does work for them so I could be a little biased!! :yes:

When my horse was in work, I fed the Pennfields Granola. I liked that it was a higher fat feed (10% IIRC) and that it did not contain any molasses. He stayed in good weight with a relatively small amount of feed (about 1 1/2 qts. twice a day). I also liked that he did not get hot/spooky (which happened with some sweet feeds).

Something I'm very happy with that is produced locally only.
