I use Roy Amaral out of North Stonington. He covers your area too...excellent excellent farrier. Does hot shoeing, trimming, etc. And makes yoour next appointment before he leaves...then always shows up at the appointment date *and* time. :D No calling trying to find him or make an appointment. 860-334-0837 or royamaral@comcast.net
In that area the Kriz Brothers are also popular for shoeing. 203-393-0414.
Kriz Farm is in Bethany, they service all of CT, some of RI and MA. From pretty much a "dynasty" of famous farriers. It's not two brothers anymore...used to be the brothers Joe and John who started Kriz Bros in the 50's I think. They were famous shoes back then too. When I was a kid, the Kriz came to our barn and did all of our horses...from trims to shoes to performance footware. Old Man Kriz did my own horse, she was a bit of a wanker for the farrier so he didn't let "the boys" near her, LOL! The boys were Tim Kriz and his cousin Glenn Kriz. Tim is still a farrier, they're still one of the farrier for one of the Budweiser teams. So drafts aren't an issue for Tim. Tim is still hilarious...wicked sense of twisted humor. So there's a major amount of experience with Tim, many farriers apprentice with him. Usually can't go wrong with Timmy Kriz either.

We use Mike Kosiba. He came from Maine a few yrs ago and does an AMAZING job. Always on time (even early sometimes!) Hot shoes, trims etc.. Specailizes in lameness issues. Works wonders with mine. I even had him shoe the barn I worked at (25 horses) because I didn't Like their farrier. He also does the guard horses, so you know hes good. Hes awesome with my stubborn draft cross too! Even when she had surgery on her hoof and a surgical plate... with his help my horse beat the odds and is sound and rideable! http://www.kosibafarrier.com/ WOW I jsut went to search google to find his number... I didnt know he had a website! Well there he is. Real nice guy! (and he covers all of ct)

Gosh that brings back some memories MB.... they did my first horse back when I was a wee little thing. Joe, I think, was the one that always showed up for us. Nice to hear that business is still going strong!

All of the above are good farriers. We use Rich Stone, out of Coventry, CT (860.742.6191). He is a vet referral, is good with the horses, does a nice job, and is punctual. Set up the next appointment before he leaves, and he is there like clockwork.

I also use Mike and highly recommend him. Always on time and does a great job. I was actually one of his first clients when he came to CT. I was looking for a new farrier and posted over on Equinesite and one of clients from Maine told me about him moving to the area and recommended him to me :-)
