Well I have an issue with the training scale thats starts with a carrot on the end of a stick.Personally I think that has little merit. Oh and the training scale where you wear a cape and tight leather pants.Not into that either.

The training scale is still with us...it is alive and well and if you train young horses...you have to observe it...if you retrain older horses you have to observe it...if you are a trainer you should know it...and if you don't know it- you have no business training ...PERIOD!

Of course the steps are sometimes muddled and the interpretations of the correct sequence sometimes vary a bit- actually IMO depending on the horse and often breed...but yes- dear Slick- the training scale is still with us- alive and well- maybe we don't talk about it that much anymore because it has become a common requirement...

I don't know, if you listen to Phillippe Karl, he doesn't think the training scale is good for much . . . If you go to TOB, you'll find a lot of his fans over there.

You are kidding Thomas, right? I understood that SLC has 487 years of experience, is well and good DEAD, like any old dead master, and now revives herself to ponder the merits of scales of training and lead us to the light.

SLC, you know very well the merits of scales of training, for without scales, your old baggy skin would fall right off and spook your horse!

I'm with egon von toast. These stories are quite creative.

I heard that once the training scale had been discredited it went into a reclusive phase, wearing only smoking jackets and lounge clothes and drinking excess amounts of alcohol to drown it's sorrow.

But, oh thank goodess, the discrediting statement has been recounted, and the training scale is now getting it's life back. So no, it is not still without merit.

"Frankie (as friends of the training scale know him) says RELAX"

Of course, occassionally Frankie has too much to drink and then he says

"Frankie gots Rhythm!"

Oh dear its gets worse from here. Frankie is now chasing a missing cow belonging to a very good friend of slc's.

not so fast. Contact and Impulsion, of course you are right, but straightness, well, that is the morning after always, isn't it? So it comes relatively late in on Training Scale's schedule. And then there is the inevitable Collection- when the men in white coats come to hold Frankie to task for all he created the previous evening.

Yes, Training Scale still has merit- enough that I see the ODG's are bailing his butt out again, no thanks to the OP! :winkgrin:

try spacing them about 3 miles apart and jogging between them each day to check. :yes:

2. Rhythm- Riders

3. Contact- Can't

4. Impulsion- Inevidably

5. Straightness- Some

6. Collection- Can

You see, there is no real system, just hidden code that some can't hack it :lol:
