Oh, god, I'm SO out of it!! When did the training scale become without merit?

Is the number 22,222 anything like 666?

And in addition, WHICH training scale is the least without merit?

Well I have an issue with the training scale thats starts with a carrot on the end of a stick.Personally I think that has little merit. Oh and the training scale where you wear a cape and tight leather pants. Not into that either.

WOW- slick- when do you post all these posts and where? AMAZING!

The training scale is still with us...it is alive and well and if you train young horses...you have to observe it...if you retrain older horses you have to observe it...if you are a trainer you should know it...and if you don't know it- you have no business training ...PERIOD!

Of course the steps are sometimes muddled and the interpretations of the correct sequence sometimes vary a bit- actually IMO depending on the horse and often breed...but yes- dear Slick- the training scale is still with us- alive and well- maybe we don't talk about it that much anymore because it has become a common requirement...

I don't know, if you listen to Phillippe Karl, he doesn't think the training scale is good for much . . . If you go to TOB, you'll find a lot of his fans over there.
I disagree of course.

Is it still without merit?

What is the meaning of this?

Several weeks after SLC started training at the Spanish Riding School, she was called into the director's office. "What is the meaning of this?" the director asked. "When you applied for this position, you told us you had fifty five years experience. Now we discovered this is the first time you've ever ridden a horse and you're even questioning the merits of training scales."

"Well," she replied, "in your advertisement you said you wanted somebody with imagination."

uh oh. What happened to it? Did it get publicly discredited and is now trying to make a comeback? It didn't run for vice president by any chance, did it?

I'm confused...

You are kidding Thomas, right? I understood that SLC has 487 years of experience, is well and good DEAD, like any old dead master, and now revives herself to ponder the merits of scales of training and lead us to the light.

SLC, you know very well the merits of scales of training, for without scales, your old baggy skin would fall right off and spook your horse!

Speaking of which, you are a little ripe these days--you need to change your earrings:

Perhaps you imagined them?

Could you direct us to some posts or quotes from "all the people" ?

Reminds me a lot of one of my fav. Weekly World News stories.

One week the frontpage headline was

WW2 Bomber Found on Moon!

next week it was:

WW2 Bomber Missing from Moon!

Brilliant!!

It is a sort of begging the question type fallacy, like "are you still beating your wife?"

"The" Training Scale was granted a base in reality and received an award for merit in 1978 by the Wizard of Oz after years of pleading, "if I only had a following."

In the beginning, Training Scale noted that most followers were flying monkies riding the coat-tails of the Wicked Witch of the Netherlands. But, after gathering some friends, including The French Man and the Classical Lion, Training Scale proceeded along the peril filled yellow brick road, and finally arrived at Oz.

I'm starting to think that there may be some posters here indulging in recreational pharmaceuticals .

I'm with egon von toast. These stories are quite creative.

I heard that once the training scale had been discredited it went into a reclusive phase, wearing only smoking jackets and lounge clothes and drinking excess amounts of alcohol to drown it's sorrow.

But, oh thank goodess, the discrediting statement has been recounted, and the training scale is now getting it's life back. So no, it is not still without merit.

don't be silly. The Training Scale is only following its own first bit of advice:

"Frankie (as friends of the training scale know him) says RELAX"

Of course, occassionally Frankie has too much to drink and then he says

"Frankie gots Rhythm!"

Oh dear its gets worse from here. Frankie is now chasing a missing cow belonging to a very good friend of slc's.

Then when Frankie drinks wayy too much sometimes, he has contact with a few inanimate objects. The impulsion comes in when he hits things hard enough to bounce back...

The straightness and collection are obviously when he's on the upswing. ;).

not so fast. Contact and Impulsion, of course you are right, but straightness, well, that is the morning after always, isn't it? So it comes relatively late in on Training Scale's schedule. And then there is the inevitable Collection- when the men in white coats come to hold Frankie to task for all he created the previous evening.

Yes, Training Scale still has merit- enough that I see the ODG's are bailing his butt out again, no thanks to the OP!

As for the cow...I hear she has taken up show jumping.

I keep trying different training scales, but none of them say I've lost weight :( I'd say they are without merit until they tell me what I want to hear!

arh then perhaps one has to empty the pooh on the top of the manure pile
rather than leave it full at the bottom of the stack
do that 20 times one would reach there goals - that the stables are clean

Don't be daft people! The training scale is merely a hidden acronym
1. Suppleness- Some

2. Rhythm- Riders

3. Contact- Can't

4. Impulsion- Inevidably

5. Straightness- Some

6. Collection- Can

You see, there is no real system, just hidden code that some can't hack it
