Have you guys ever had a bird with the most annoying and repetitive call driving you nuts?
I've either got a mockingbird pretending to be a Bobwhite or a genuine Bobwhite in my side yard. It's been Bobwhiting and whistling all day, about once every twenty seconds. This is very loud and is akin to torture. Once sundown came, the calls stopped. Since mockingbirds sing at night, I suspect a real bobwhite. If it is, I'm thrilled of course; but if it's a mocker, I am less than happy. There is nothing that can be done to preserve peace and quiet, but, danged, it's irritating.

Our bobs sing in the evenings/night. Our mockingbirds sit on our dish and mimic just about everything they hear during the day. I suggest ear plugs?

Personally, I find it beats sirens.
However the mockingbirds we have now imitate my DH's whistle, so the little buggers have gotten me to trot out of the house going "what, what?" more than once, leading my DH to become convinced I've lost my mind. My daughter, bless her heart, managed to get him to pay attention once and hear the mock whistle so I am no longer mind-less.

I was just visiting my Mom on Cape Cod and there was some bird that went "tweet tweet TWEET" with a volume, regularity, and lack of variation that made me want to poke my ears out. No idea what it was, but we don't have them here and I never heard them in eastern Mass. It sounded like a bad electronic sound effect. It was maddening!

I love Mockingbirds.... It's amazing how many different calls they can mimic. Almost like a wild parrot..:)

If it is driving you crazy I'd bet on the mockingbird. A friend had one that mimicked her walk around phone. We have one that does our (ever so cool) motion sensor sprinkler. They don't seem to know they sing at night (never heard that myself) but our bob's start at dusk. Along with the whole symphony of frogs, and noises I am still working on.
Earplugs:winkgrin:

I have a bunch of stinking sparrows in my barn and they wake me up every morning, usually before 5 AM. I hear them over the barn intercom. I hate to get up and either turn off or down the intercom because I have a horse that frequently gets gas colic so I want to be able to hear any disturbance in the barn.
If I could manage to get rid of those dang sparrows for good I'd be thrilled.

A red-tail hawk is fledging out in the pasture. It has been shrieking almost continuously for the past three weeks. It's worse than a seagull. I think I'd be really tempted to shoot it if I wasn't confident that it will eventually learn to fly properly and go shriek somewhere else.

On our old farm, we had a Mockingbird that meow-ed like a cat. Now that was annoying!

Have the odd mockingbird come through here - they don't stick around, thank heavens. Few years ago, one stopped for a week or three, and it imitated a shipoke (shore bird that lives around here) and I kept hearing this blasted shipoke and never saw it. More puzzling was the fact the sound came from the trees, not shore bird habitat. Finally, the novelty wore off and I went looking and there was a mockingbird.
I have cedar waxings here and they make a rather metallic chrrrrrr chrrrr CHRRRRRRRR sound, very annoying when they start arguing with the 4 AM robin. More annoying, they are eating my berries again.
