Ok, bare with me here, I'm confused also...
My mare was inspected last August for registration by RhPSI, got a of 49 and I was told she's 'Premium'. She was branded that day with a half brand (much to my suprise!), her dam is a JC reg. mare in 'Stutbuch I' and we did DNA testing on my mare and her dam, the sire was lifetime RhPSI approved. What I don't get is why my mare has the half brand and also on my mare's pink German paperwork I don't see where is says which marebook she's in.
I wasn't to worried about it at first but should I decide breed my mare I am now concerned about being able to register the foal, I really have tried to find the answers on RhPSI's website but I not finding any info regarding the half brand at all.
Everytime I start looking into this I feel like I'm being sucked into the "black hole of mare owners despair"

Did you present her dam to RPSI? Was her dam ever inspected? Did you pay the membership fees on the dam to the registry? (Prob had to pay mare inspection fee + yearly membership fee + foal inspection fees if foal was inspected at this time)

I looked at the 2009 Guide and don't see your mare listed as premium. Also I don't see Fine Art listed as a Book I ( or even Book II stallion ) on 2009,2008 and 2006. Don't have all the guides and your best line of information is the registry office.

Ditto what McKee said. I don't see Fine Art on the approved stallions list. He may be approved but if his dues were not paid for the year it doesn't matter  I actually can't even find a website for Fine Art anymore.

Yes, Yes (the dams owner did) and to the best of my knowledge - Yes. :)
PT was not inspected as a foal, I presented her last year at 6 years old, maybe that is part of the problem?

Fine Art passed away 7/24/2004  , her dam is also died in 2005 which makes this even more callenging as not all of the info is current. This is worse than doing taxes...

I have contacted RhPSI via email and am awaiting their response.

You were given papers when this mare was presented as foal correct? If so, after her 3yr old approval for breeding inspection she should have a stamp on her papers towards the back that says what book she was approved into. .

ETA: if she has a half brand then she can't be MMB because she cant be in the top book. Even if her score was high she would have to be in the lower books. Wow.. this is complicated and I would bet money that Fine Art's yearly dues weren't paid that is why she has a half brand and not a full brand. He can be approved for life but he still has to pay the fees (living or passed away) for the foals to get full papers.

Wait now I'm losing it myself. How old is your mare and why was she just branded last year? She should have been inspected and branded as a foal then brought back at 3 for breeding approval.

Check with the office. Either the dam, Scarlet Risk, did not score sufficient points at her inspection or the sire, Fine Art, was not fully licensed. Even if the stallion is not currently activated, she should have still gotten full registration, but the breeder may have had to pay a permit fee.

RPSI is in the thick of Inspection tours, I think. JoAnne is usually terrific about getting back to you.

I have not one bit of help other than that.

Well, except that if you breed YOUR mare to a Book I stallion, foal is eligible at *least* Book II (half brand) and in 3 more generations, continuing to use Book I sire/dam, THAT foal can be Book I.

Hi there! Your mare scored a 49 which is one point from premium. I know this from personel experience:cry:.! She will be entered into the main mare book. The half brand indicates that one of the parents has a incomplete 5 generation history. There are ways RPSI lets you get around that. i.e. test scores from showing, hence the Stud book II option. Hope that helps.

Here is the list of 2009 Premium mares: score of 49 qualifies as premium.

Ok, it seems getting this mare registered was a comedy of errors, she does indeed have the wrong brand she should have the full brand not half brand and RPSI are at a loss why this occured, they have been very gracious about the situation but we decided not to 're-brand' her. Inspection at SGF was yesterday and I went and her labels for Mare Book 1 and Premium staus were added, her foals will be eligible for full brand/registry (depending on the sire, of course). Phew, I am so glad this is done with now :)
I just have to say that RPSI (Otto, Ernie and JoAnne) are an exceptional group of folks to work with, and I have no hard feelings at all. Poop happens, life goes on...
