Here is a link to his breeding. I believe he was bred in Holland by Mr. H de Man.

Interesting that he has XX TB blood in his great grandfather. Ravel is only 11 years old as well! We should see him at GP for a while? May be even until 18 years old?

Just to clarify , the video posted on youtube :oearlier his morning had an announcer who, called him Hanoverian:lol: This announcer onTheos' video corectly labeled him as Dutch with a German rider; The interview with Stefan was cute; the announcer mentioned the "disco" music:lol: __________________

If he's a stallion, he could have been approved by any number of registries. So he could sire a KWPN, Hanoverian, Oldenburg, whatever registry accepts him and the dam. His breeding shows how typical these registries intermingle.

Could be better, the breeder could be Mr. He de Man. Cuz he is.
I have loved Contango since the day he was imported and I also LOVE Contender in a bloodline. Contender, a primo influential Holsteiner stallion, has progeny that shows up in all sorts of registries so I wouldn't have blinked if I heard that Ravel was Hanoverian.
I just love Ravel.

Ravel was actually imported as a stallion - but was gelded while in quarantine at Davis. He was quite a handful (to say the least) and was gelded while there.

Lovely interview with Henk de Man in the AD after Vegas said he got into breeding on a lark. Ravel has three full brothers and a broodmare sister, and De Man said he originally picked Contango because a Contango youngster he saw had the "wow factor."

Balagur started as a circus horse, then was a police horse. He is an Orlov Trotter. And too darling for words.
Fantastic

Ravel is nearly half Gelderlander (through his dam line), and 25% Holst through Contender. (see the breeding forum for more Gelderlander discussion).
I love Balagur, too! He is super talented!

Plus, he's pink! (remember he had just been clipped before Hong Kong and his pink skin showed through under the lights.) Adorable horse.

Hanover can't make a claim on him if the breeding that is listed everywhere is correct *LOL*. There are few horses who have lesser Hanoverian in them than him as his dam is KWPN all the way back to her roots and Papa is a Holsteiner-Oldenburger making.
I saw him on a sales video when he was for sale (I may say I hated the riding at that point. His changes where butt-high and he looked less than happy). That was a few months before he was exported.
Steffen did a great job to retrain him, I wouldn't have expected someone would manage to get these changes. They are throwing in an awfully great performance and I'm sure they will give their competitors the shivers (proverbially spoken) for the coming years. Kudos to this horse and rider pair! It's too bad he had to be gelded although I think it was mainly due to a quarantine problem but due to his behavior. As far as a handful goes any horse coming out of quarantine being less than p**** is a miracle especially when it is a highly trained, adult male used to being exercised a lot on a daily basis. No fun being imprisoned that way for days so I think it is perfectly normal for them to be 'an handful'. Just my two cents.

The good news is that Ravel's full brother is still entire & competing very sucessfully in the UK with his owner Gemma Green. He has won at a national level right through his career and has just started at GP. He will stand at public stud next year so here's your chance to breed another Ravel :D You can read more about him in Gemma's blog here http://www.horsehero.com/celebrity-blog?CelebId=1925

He's closer to 40% Holsteiner, 15% Gelder and 45% TB and SF.

And it was stated in a recent interview with the breeder that this brother is even better as Ravel. Maybe also worth to mention is that Dutch rider Laurens van Lieren got the ride on Citango.

Please read his bloodlines.

His dam Hautain is 71.87% Gelders. Contango is by Holst sire Contender, and out of 50% Old 50% XX dam Adisa III.

I think I was smokin something (not really) late last night when I made my post. It was way past my bed time!
This is the wrong Democraat that I first thought was his dam's father: http://www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00004179
Here is the correct Democraat, who is 50% GP:
http://www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00007750
http://www.hengstenstation.com/hssystem/hengstenshow.php?target=19
Pion is this Democraat's father. He is 50% GP. http://www.gelderlanderhorse.nl/pedigree/nederlands/horse.php?N=00000454
Ravel's dam, Hautain is 50% GP, so that makes him 25% GP.

The only problem with Democraat was that you couldn't come close to him or he would kick you out of his stable.

Does anyone know if they froze semen before Ravel was gelded?
Fantastic

Probably not, as he wasn't approved. But you never know.

Any chance they could get Ravel's brother approved Hannoverian?
