I also put this in the off topics just in case this wasn't for here..

Has anyone used the depo provera shot for their gelding? I have a gelding that I sometimes think sending him down the road as a teaser for a brood mare farm! He has been acting the fool since this new mare has shown up and is reverting back to a stallion like mentality. My other draft mare went into heat today and he has tried to mount, dropped, is attention is not on me and today when I put my mare Smoke, who is in heat back into the pasture, as she was over with Trixi, he chuckled, grumbled, dropped, pranced and tried to mount her. Then when I told him no in a firm voice he spun and as he ran by kicked up at me, but thank god I wasn't close.

So, I called the vet and she is coming out Tuesday to give him a depo shot...and I am seriously thinking about putting them ALL on Mare's Magic as it helped last year. There are certainly days he would make a mighty pretty rug!!

Thank you Allicat for the reply...how long was your pony on it and did you only need one shot?

I am amazed that Terry can act like such a stallion and if you didn't know him, you would swear he was one! I admit, I am rather sick of this behavior as his mind is not on me or anyone else around him but on one thing..the mare.

I kept him on it once a month shots. He was on it for about a year. I would give him less when "breeding season" was over and flirty mares were done teasing him. During the months that mares would be in heat we upped his dose. We were showing 2 times a month. It was a big improvement and worth the cost. I ended up buying it by the bottle and giving my own shots. Much much cheaper than having the vet come out to do it. Good Luck.
