So I'm looking at a Windsor saddle and it has a number 3 tree....but I can't find out what that means.

Looking up the saddle it looks like they run, narrow, med, wide, ex wide so a 3 would be a wide?

Thanks

The number 3 fits many horses of the larger TB and less bulky WB type. I have all #3 trees except for one #4 for the extreme widebodies. Depending on how much it has been used and on what type of horse, it may be wider or narrower, since the Windsors tend to mold to the back of the horse they are used on. I have #3 trees with not insignificant differences in how they fit :-).

Good luck with it, great saddles!

The Windor's #3 tree is considered a medium. A 3.5 is medium-wide, 4 is wide, and 4.5 is extra wide. I have a Windsor Greenline with a 4.5 tree and it fits my broad-but-not-so-high withered Appendix gelding with a slightly swayed back. I love this saddle more than words can say! Extremely comfortable for both of us and helps me into a great riding position. Even if I get a different horse down the road, I WILL NOT get rid of this saddle because I *LOFF* it like it was made for me and my horse! Good luck and I hope it helps. Oh, and BTW, if the Windsor has a spring tree, you have to take into account how much it has been used. A practically brand new #3 fit my horse tighter than a well-used #3 of the Blueline model.
