Has anyone shortened flaps before on a dressage saddle? If so, about how much did it cost? Thanks!!!

Sorry to give you bad news. This hard to do well. my saddlers refused. I wish you luck, though...

I'm actually having my saddle done sometime this week at a local western tack shop. It was priced at $50 to $60 for both flaps.

The owner has tons of leather working equipment and makes custom western saddles and tack. He said he wasn't too familiar with english saddles, but it seemed like a pretty straight forward job.

I'll get back to you with how it turns out!

Earlier this year I purchased a Passier dressage saddle that had its flaps shortened by its previous owner. They don't look bad but one is a little unevenly cut as compared to the other --- when my saddler came out he thought they looked pretty good. They were neatly stiched where the padded knee is and everything. You probably can't tell unless you're looking but it's definately not noticeable when I'm riding. I love it, bec it fits every way else and the short flaps are what I need and can be hard to find unless you order new.

Unfortunately, I bought it through a shop and can't tell you where to send it to get this done. But yeah, find someone who is comfortable doing it --- the Western guys esp saddle makers and chap makers are good w/knives and if they can sew that might be the way to go! Try to look at their work if you can. . .

Good luck!
