I heard about this on the news this morning. No fatalities but 2 horses suffered life-threatening injuries.

I know several people who board there, I hope their horses are ok. It's a weird coincidence because I just read an article in the local paper today warning farmers of the danger of hay fires because of the hay being put up wetter than usual. If I recall from when I visited there was not alot of hay storage in the main barn, but it could have started elsewhere or perhaps been electrical in origin.

WE grow and bail our own hay and this has been a TERRIBLE year for wet hay fires!!! My dad and sons are extremely cautious about what we are putting in our barn each day!!! Please remind everyone to be overy careful!!!!

I have an update from a gal I now who boards there:

My friend **** was there all night helping find the horses that got loose – I was on and off the phone with her until 2 am. The main barn and pony barn are gone – part of the bank barn is standing. One horse we seriously burned and will probably be put down. Another was hurt but should be fine. All but 4 horses we on night turnout which is a good thing. Some people are moving their horses out today but the owner said he’s getting temporary stabling to put up in the indoor.

Oh my gosh that is terrible. I have been to Pink Star and it is such a lovely facility. What a awful thing to happen. Those poor horses :(

I'm an ex-boarder (when it was Passport) and I'm so so sad. This was one of my favorite horse facilities. It looks awful.

Someone had asked if they needed anything... The owners of my current barn drove their water truck over today to fill troughs, because they have no way of getting water to the fields. Also, I know a few local tack shops have donated grain to help feed the remaining horses.

Does anyone know how the horses are that were injured? I did check out the website that Landshark mentioned. interesting. Hope this had nothing to do with the fire. Also, is there an email address or group that has come together to help the owners of these horses? I'm sure that they have lost everything in the fire. I could go through some of my stuff and send a care package.

My mare is the horse that was critically injured. She has severe burns, but is improving daily, so we are optimistic about her outcome. It is likely that she will not be able to be ridden, but will be able to live out her life comfortably as a pet and possibly mommy.
It was a truly devastating event for all involved. What is most horrifying for me is to think about how frightened she must have been. She and my friend's mare stuck together when they ran. My friend's horse suffered some injuries also, but will be fine. One of the owner's horses was also injured pretty badly, but he appears to be doing ok as well.
It is wonderful how the horse community has come together to donate supplies and services to the farm owner.
