I'm transferring a German papered Hanoverian mare to the AHS. I've filled out all of her paperwork/registration stuff and she's registered to the AHS.

I'm told that she has to go to an inspection for her ET foal to be branded Hanoverian.

I've also been told by a friend that I don't want to do the MPT.
She's a dressage horse and I think my friend is afraid she might get hurt jumping the chute.

She's a performance mare and could do the under saddle portion in her sleep I think.

Questions

1. What would be the reason to do the MPT?

2. Why does Elite Mare status matter?

3. What does it take to become an Elite Mare by performance?

I am not an AHS expert, but I thought that if a mare had her mare inspection in Germany and was then transferred to AHS, she did not have to be re-inspected by AHS. Maybe they meant you had to take the foal to inspection for it to be branded - although they will also do outreach branding, where they come to you ($$$$$).

Yes, she shouldn't have to be reinspected unless you want to upgrade her status to elite by doing the MPT. I believe (but don't hold me to it) that she can also be upgraded through performance by giving proof of 3 dressage tests above 60% in 3rd level or above! So if she shows at that level you wouldn't have to do the MPT and the jumping!
The elite status is advantageous when breeding because it is proof that the mare is of an above average quality, so it reflects nicely on the foal! :)

she didn't get inspected in Germany, so it sounds like she'll have to get inspected here.

she'll be doing 4th/PSG next year. so she can become elite if she scores above 60% in 3 of these classes?

If she was branded as foal Hanoverian and now receives a 7.0 or higher at inspection, she would become EE (elite eligble). It sounds like she has the scores to become and EMC if you submit them to the office (if she does score higher than 7.0 at inspection). Then to become EM, she needs to have a foal. But the AHS office is very nice and could definitely give you a definitive answer to many of your questions.

Having an EM definitely helps, it shows the mare's high quality and many do not achieve that status.

Good luck!

thanks everyone for all the help.

Kris: I'm really grateful for your explaining the EE. That clears up some of the things I was told by the AHS crowd ( I did call them but didn't feel like I really understood the ins/outs)
