Off Clip On Insect Repellent

I saw this advertised on TV last night and my mind immediately went to trail riding when the threat of mosquitos can drive me back to the indoor arena. http://www.offprotects.com/clip-on-mosquito-repellent/

The precautions say "Caution-Hazards to humans and domestic animals:
Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing.
Avoid breathing vapor.
Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, chewing gum or using tobacco.
Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
Store away from food, beverages and pet food."

But if clipped to your belt loop, I can't see it bothering even the most sensitive horse, the chemicals would travel behind you. Or could THAT be a problem...you're moving too fast for it to be effective?

Any thoughts?

Really? Sister and I are going to camp in the Adirondacks in the fall and I was wondering if they were worth picking up.

Really? Sister and I are going to camp in the Adirondacks

The only thing that keeps you bite free in the Adirondacks is a bug jacket, worth every penny at under $20. They are thin mesh like a fly mask and have a hood that zips closed for head protection. I've worn mine trail riding.

I was hoping it would work for me for riding, but then I read the directions. It says that you are supposed to be mostly in one place for the "bubble" of protection to form. If you move, you are supposed to expect it to take a few moments for it to reform. So, a lesson situation seems like the exact opposite of that. However, for camping and sitting around outside, I'm certainly going to try one. For riding, it's back to the old coating both of us with OFF routine.

I did a Google search on this thing after seeing the ads. What I found indicated to me that it was pretty much worthless; nothing more than a gimmick.

I use it gardening. It works if you remember to turn it back on. I wear it on my right hip and will sometimes get one bite on my left arm. If I don't have it on I get a lot of bites.

So, it isn't perfect, but it does help a lot. Now that is moving around a little, so don't know how effective it will be moving quicker on horseback.

Those work. I was camping last weekend, and it seemed to really keep the bugs away. I doubt it would work if you moved around a lot, but we were just hanging around the campsite.

I could notice some difference if it was on or not. It kept us pretty bug free :)

How about spraying off in your horse's mane and tail? It won't be absorbed and when the horse swishes his tail the Off smell will "waft" around.
