Loose horses + highway = road founder??

Scary night. Our horses got loose on the highway tonight. Thanks to a wonderful group of people, horsey and non-horsey, we were able to get them back home safely.

My question is how likely are they to have road founder now. The horses were barefoot and running in a panic down the road. Should I have the vet out to check them tomorrow or wait until they show any signs. My horse is a heavy draft cross so I'm especially worried about the concussion.

I'd say possible but not probable.

Normally, road founder is an insidious condition resulting from accumulative low-grade concussion over time, not one isolated incident. (Don't mean it can't happen though.)
