I know it's some sort of German WB, but that's it. There's one for sale at the barn where I board my mare, and he's a big goof, also a very nice looking horse. My mare loves him (which is not her usual reaction to geldings!) and it will be sad when he goes to a new home.
So, enlighten me? About Sachsen Anheltiners and any other "minor" WB breeds?

I believe it is Sachsen Anhaltiner and the breed originated in Eastern Germany. I saw an ad for one recently that looked interesting (a schoolmaster gelding).

YL, if that gelding is in New Hampshire, it's the one I am talking about :) He's a real sweetheart.

It's actually spelled Sachsen Anhaltiner.

Most of the websites I pulled up were in German unfortunately.

Sachsen is the German spelling for Saxony. Sachsen Anhalt, I believe, is one of the German states that was previously in East Germany. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.maps-of-germany.co.uk/images/sachsen-anhalt.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.maps-of-germany.co.uk/map-of-sachsen-anhalt.htm&h=550&w=606&sz=32&tbnid=c_hufz460eLzXM:&tbnh=123&tbnw=136&prev=/images%3Fq%3DSachsen%2BAnhalt&hl=en&usg=__Kx7d0Z10-75t9RO9km9NuSCCt1I=&ei=UUtXSv__K5q_tweeiozdCg&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=6&ct=image So Sachsen Alhaltiner would simply be a horse that is registered in Sachsen Anhalt, much as Holsteiner is a horse registered in Holstein.
Whether the horse has qualitities peculiar to horses bred in that area of Germany is yet another question which only experts could answer.

Hm. I was hoping to find an expert here :) I know he has Hanoverian lines, but that's it. He's not mine; I'm just curious about the "breed" such as it is.
