Well, I took the next step on this horse journey. I just bought my first pair of breeches online...along with riding gloves and a helmet cover (the plain white looks so...novice!). Never wore a pair of breeches before but since I'm now starting this trot stuff, and cantering not far behind (ahead?), I really felt it was time for something more comfortable than jeans. Hopefully they will arrive before my next lesson next week!

You'll find the breeches a lot more comfortable than jeans.

They do make riding jeans - no inside seam to rub - but not sure if I've ever seen them advertised in men's sizes.

BTW: since from your post you sound like a beginning rider (or beginning English style at least) if you find your "parts" being damaged by the trotting, invest in a gel seatsaver.
Helped my DH get past the ouchiness until he developed a seat.

oh yes, they are much more comfortable than jeans! When I first started I would wear jeans (and no half chaps) and would walk away with ginormous bruises on the inside of my leg and calf. OUCH. Breeches stretch and are much cooler. Enjoy!

You'll never go back to jeans again. MUCH more comfy.

Oh and, Hey! We need pictures ;)

Thanks for the info, I am definitely looking forward to ditching the jeans. Wore half chaps last time which helped.

2Dogs, yup, I'm a beginner, did the customary "greetings, I'm a newbie" post yesterday :) Thanks for the gel seatsaver info...never heard of it and may do some research on it.

As noted breeches are much more comfortable than jeans as riding wear. Many saddle makers will tell you not to ride in a leather seat saddle wearing denim as it is a "hard" fabric that is hard on leather.

Don't know what you bought but next time consider these:

They are about half way down the page. They are very comfortable and very durable.

Good luck with the lessons!
