Hey guys!
So I am in the process of helping the owner of my horses retirement barn retrain a horse she just got in. The horse used to be ashow horse appearently, however the old owners methods of riding appearently were questionable.
Okay well first off, she is amazing to the right, like she is really good, understands it all, really balanced etc. but to the left, um well she doesn't know she has a left lead. So I have resorted to not cantering her that way until we can get the walk and trot perfect, she now gets bending especially at the walk, but at the trot she seriously throws her haunches out to the point in which she is side stepping do the side of the arena coming out of the corners.
So to work this out I have been doing about 15 minutes of walking exercises on just bending to the left. And then I go up to the trot, at this point I try and work her on circles, I have my outside leg supporting her enough so that she shouldn't be able to throw her haunches, my inside leg is bending her my inside rein is being "sponged" on to get her supple and bending, and my outside rein the the on keeping her front end normal (sorry I am not sure if I explained that right). But still she throws her haunches out, any ideas? This mare is really pretty and I really want her to be a good little local/schooling hunter at some point.
Please help :)
I am going to talk with my coach about this when I see her at my other farm some point this week.
Here is a photo (The chetsnut) of the mare (http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs107.snc1/4912_117241481270_507871270_3267175_5808484_n.jpg) :) I think she is pretty :)
